We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Cabral and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I believe my own weight loss journey and struggles with knowing what to eat and how much to eat played a pivotal role. Back in 2015 I started my weight loss journey by joining a gym that had opened up down the street from the college campus I worked at. I was given a food list with portion sizes and I learned to get creative with meal prepping for myself from that limited food list. Within 6 months I had lost nearly 100 lbs. by working out 5x a week, and eating my own meal preps.
I loved the way I felt, I was the healthiest I had ever been and I was excited to continue with this lifestyle. So when I was offered an opportunity to continue this lifestyle change, I took it.
In 2016 I retired from the college I worked for and took a leap of blind faith and moved from California to Texas. I was part of a team who assisted with opening up a weight loss gym in Houston. This particular gym also played a pivotal role, it gave me the platform I needed to go off on my own and start my own meal prep business, Paulaspreps.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My clients keep me busy professionally. Building and fostering personal relationships with my clients and treating them like family is important to me. My clients are the heart of my business, and they are the reason I get to do what I love. Serving my clients healthy quality portioned meals for them to be successful with reaching their fitness and health goals is important to me, their success is my success. What sets me apart from other meal prep businesses, is that I will customize and cater to the individual health and fitness needs of each client.
Also building and fostering relationships with other entrepreneurs and small business owners within the community keeps me professionally busy. I have learned so much from their experience and expertise, they all have contributed to the success of my business.
Being an entrepreneur, there are no days off, we are always hustling promoting ourselves, promoting each other, and working hard to stay relevant.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am thankful and blessed to have had the support of my family and friends who believed in me and prayed for me. I am thankful and blessed to have the support of other small business owners who refer me, who shout me out on their social media platforms, and who like my posts. I am especially thankful to all my clients for blessing me and trusting me with their meal prep orders, it’s because of them I get to do what I love. It really does take a village, a village I am so blessed to be apart of.
