We had the good fortune of connecting with Queen O and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Queen O, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process to creating my own business was pretty simple. I wanted to have a place to house my creativity and the ability to foster and grow my ideas. I’ve learned that when you work for someone else there is only room for the companies objectives to be met. I enjoy having my own business and space where that is possible for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In 2017, while working in Radio and a full time college student I started my Podcast, “Kickin it with Queen O”. I wanted a place where I could have conversations with everyday creatives to not only discuss their journey but what’s going on in the world around us. I enjoyed having weekly segments where I could showcase my talent, but I was far more interested in how the creatives and artist of today think, and what there plights and struggles were. Today, podcasting is becoming more and more prevalent, but three years ago it wasn’t as easy to access information on how to distribute and grow one. In order for me to continue to grow in this arena I decided the best thing to do was find other ways to market episodes besides posting a link on social media. The more research I did on marketing products on social media, the more I began to implement those same practices into my Podcast. During this journey I’ve learned that desire, dedication, and discipline are three of the main factors necessary in growing your brand and meeting your goals. As a creative, my mind is filled with Ideas everyday so I find that it takes discipline to not be easily distracted, desire to want to continue to pursue that Idea, and dedication to see it through.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would recommend anyone coming to Fort Worth, Texas to visit The Doc Bookshop! It is a Black owned book store filled with black literature, audio books, vinyl, and so much more. They host book clubs and a host of other things! It’s one of my favorite places to go in the city!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is very special to me, I want to personally say, Thank you to The Cocoa Butter Queen, Brennon Cole, and anyone who has helped me further my brand, business, and personal life by supporting, nurturing, and embracing my journey. I appreciate every positive text or conversation with each of you, it will never go unnoticed or overlooked.
