We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Desonier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It started with a babyshower. I was hosting my good friend Lori’s baby shower (also a creative biz owner-she’s amazing!) and I wanted to try and make French macarons for her. I’d heard they were super tricky, and so I gave it a shot and that first batch came out PERFECT.
Clearly I was super talented….until every other batch failed! Lol! So I had to get it right before her babyshower, and I became obsessed with figuring this finicky cookie out.
That in combination with the fact that there’s not really a place to get really good macarons here in the League City area, Art+Flavor Bakery was born!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love food, particularly desserts, and I wanted to create sweets for others that are really flavor-forward, rather than just looking good. I love flavor and balance, not just sweetness, and so I strive to create desserts that are focused on flavor and not just excessive sweetness.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It would all center around the food! Galveston and League City areas have some really tasty places to eat and hang out, so my trip would definitely include visiting Mosquito Cafe in Galveston for brunch, Marais or Number 13 for dinner, and probably staying at Cedar Oaks Inn Bed & Breakfast in Dickinson-such a unique and relaxing place!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d say to my my husband who has supported me mentally (and financially) to grow my dreams.
