We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Limas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have had several job titles since I started working at 17. All of them have been managing positions & I worked each one for long periods of time.

I honestly began this business out of desperation. I had left my last job wanting more than what I was getting. Pay was not the issue, but it was just in my heart and mind that I was meant for something else.

It took me looking for 3 months trying to find a new job with no luck! I was being told I was over qualified for most of the places, or just no call backs at all. I was desperate as I have always had income being a Mother of 4, I had to make something happen.

That’s when I decided to ask my sister to lend me $100 so I could go buy supplies & then I just started advertising for cleaning homes. Something I have never done professionally. But I took a chance & so glad I did.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think that from the very beginning of starting this journey I was determined to succeed. There was no where else for me to go but up at this point.

I learned as I went, and it was not easy in the beginning. Advertising online on social media was how I found my clients. I was constantly searching groups and combing through posts to put my name out there. It was exhausting and business was slow, I felt discouraged many times. But I just had to remind myself that I know the need for home cleaning services is a big industry & that it would all come together. This was September 2019.

Finally I started finding recurring clients. It was going great. Then a world wide pandemic hit. No one expected this & I feared the worse. Who would want us in there home with a deadly virus going around. But it turned out to be quite the opposite.
I began getting calls left and right and honestly it’s been non stop ever since.

Having the trust of my clients is huge. For them to allow me in their homes, & give me a spare key, it’s kind of like, “you made it Rachel” I love it.

What I want the World to know about me & the story behind my business is that I’m living proof that if you take a chance on yourself, there’s risk but it’s so worth it. I was a single Mother to 4 kids at a young age but I’ve never given up. There were many times I sat by myself & cried and prayed to be able just to make it. I’m proud to say that I am on the road to making it.

I take pride in any home that I am able to service. Home Health is so important. It’s not just about a clean & sanitized environment, but it also helps with mental health. They go hand in hand and I’m so grateful to be able to provide that for my clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Kemah Boardwalk for the amusement park, live music and great seafood.

Buffalo Bayou Park for a picnic and bike riding even. The Aquarium to feed the stingrays & even dine at the restaurant.

The river near San Antonio for tubing if the weather is good & possibly the Riverwalk.

I love authentic Latin/Hispanic food so definitely would show them a few restaurants that I enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so thankful to my immediate Family for being there for me emotionally and physically when I needed them most.

From my boyfriend who took care of all the expenses while I was trying to start a business. My sister who helped me out with the loan to start it up & my kids who believed in me & encouraged me to start something new. And my sister in law who volunteered to be my partner in business.
