We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKayla Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaKayla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was to find a business that would allow me to be flexible with my time and to be financially free. I got into real estate because there is no cap on my salary and I would be able to spend more time with my daughters. The pandemic changed my mindset about the amount of time I needed to be with my children and how I needed to start to following my dreams. Life is so short and I witnessed that with two deaths of two grandparents in the same weekend. Once that happened, I decided that I would live as if tomorrow wasn’t promised. So I decided to follow my dreams and push for the life I wanted to live every single day.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a local Realtor here in Houston, Texas. I have been working in Real Estate for a little over a year. I work with a great local brokerage. I joined this brokerage because of the extensive training in Real Estate. My business is set apart from other because I am purely relationship based. I proud myself in being able to build relationships as a skill. Some say, I do well because I’m so likeable. I say I do well because I’m real. I really care about people and their futures. As a woman raising little ones, I am extremely passionate about helping people achieve their lifetime goals. I love to inspire and motivate people to believe that their dreams can come true and that they are actually achievable. I got to where I am today by practicing what I preach. I teach people to believe and so I practice believing that the dreams I want to manifest will actually come true. I also got to where I am with relentless attempts of consistency, persistence and resilience. I never give up. I try and try until I achieve the results I set out to achieve and I practice them through consistency. I start with the small habits. Those small actions then turn into BIG habits and then I find myself making large strides to my goals. It hasn’t been easy but like I said, I don’t give up. So once you learn the cycle, you learn that consistency wins ALWAYS. I overcome challenges through prayer and visualization. Everyday, I’m sure to take part in my quiet time with God. I align my thoughts and prayers with what I believe is the path and actions he has created for me to follow. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way have been that there are NO elevators to success. You can attend the best conferences, have the best mentors or even read the bestselling book, you will still need to DO the work to make it happen. There is NO way around the work. Have an attitude of service and you will always win, I want the world to know that I am someone who truly believes that dreams come true. Every day I wake up and follow the dreams God has entrusted to me. I also believe that my God given talent is to help others reach for their dreams as well. I want people to continue to BELIEVE. And not just to believe in your dreams but believe that you too were entrusted with those dreams to enact into this world. I strongly believe that if you don’t take your rightful place as the beholder of those dreams and entire generation could miss out on what you were supposed to bring into this world. I charge others to tap into that gift, stick with it and watch the blessings flow into your life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend happened to live outside of Houston and wanted to visit for the best visit EVER, we would do the following: We would wake up to eats at Mo Betta Brews. Catch a bike ride with 3rd Ward Tours. Check out the Spot Eado. Catch a meditation with the Come Bee Wellness Community. Definitely eating at Lucille’s. A quick staycation at Hotel ZaZa for spa treatment and poolside vibes. Also, check out some of the great culture in the museum district. Rent a couple of scooters downtown to check out some new sights and Discovery Green and House of Blues. I could go on and on and on. So many great eateries and so many experiences to check out.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my Creator, my family and my daughters, Skylar and Mckenzie Walker. Everything I am is because of them. I have been built up to be so that they can dare to dream and be the individuals that they were purposed to be. I believe in building a legacy for my family. My daughters are destined to be who they are supposed to be in this world only if I am who I am supposed to be. Everything I have is because of them. I want them to see the hard work and dedication that I have put into my life and draw inspiration and motivation to keep on trying even when life is hard…. because it will get hard. I do my best to show my girls all of the hardships that I face and help them to navigate challenges that come their way easier.
