We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebeca and Nicole Mejia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebeca and Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My sister and I have always had the dream of starting a business together. We are originally from Honduras and if you know hispanics you know food and entertainment are LIFE. I (Rebeca) started creating boards for friends and family and quickly got my sister (Nicole) hooked. I asked her if she wanted to do this with me and she jumped. I have to admit both she and I did not know everything that goes into this business but we are so glad to do this together. We laugh, cry, fight, make-up and eat cheese while at it( pun-intended!) We started thinking this was going to be just a hobby for us and never would we imagine what it is now. Customers have trusted us for all their special occasions. Starting from appreciation fun-size boxes to our grazing tables to Corporate Private Charcuterie Classes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think I speak for all small business owners when I say I had no idea EVERYTHING that goes into owning a business. You are everything (CEO, CFO, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Social Media Manager, Cleaning Crew, etc) We did not get everything right at first but we have learned so much along the way. I would say our biggest hurdles have been work-life balance and saying no to our customers. R+Brie Charcuterie represents so much more than a cheese and charcuterie business. It represents sisterhood, women, moms, Hispanics and most importantly LOVE and Appreciation for our customers. We specialize in events from customized charcuterie cones to grazing tables or islands. We love going that extra mile to make those special events you invite us to be part of even more special.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston speaks diversity to me. The diversity of food is top notch. The essential restaurants on the itinerary are Pappas Steakhouse, Papasitos, Phat Eatery, Jackson Street BBQ, Xochi, Giacomo’s Cibo e Vino, A’Bouzy, State of Grace, Oporto and so much more!! Top spots to visit for me are NASA (Very cool experience!), Kema and Memorial Park. In the afternoon hitting the local breweries such as Saint Arnold, Karbach and Buffalo Bayou are a must! The views are amazing. I would at least take my friend to one of the many sports events Houston offers. My favorite are the Astros but you can’t go wrong with the Dynamo and Texans!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Cheesy Answer coming.. We would like to thank our parents for teaching us to go for a dreams and never say we can’t do something. They have taught us core values that are reflected in our business. We always treat customers with the highest respect and always add-on a little touch to customize and make their cheese board/table unique to them. The other big supporters for this business are our husbands. They have been on board with this since day. Thank you for being the best dads to our kids when mamas can’t be around, the best taste testers and delivery boys!
