We had the good fortune of connecting with Rece Eze and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rece, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is people seeing my faith before me. When I cook, create, or collab, let them figure out the message behind the action.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is the need to provide a resource for those afraid of the kitchen. I’m most excited about this platform due to the fact I have no rules when it comes to cooking besides, wash your hands, clean your meat, and season your food. People often reach out about what works and what doesn’t work in their kitchen, because of the fear of judgement. The kitchen is a scary place if you don’t use it. How I got to where I am in business was not an easy journey and it was started with a lack of resources. I overcame the challenges by actually getting let down ONE time by an unfair client. Mixing business and pleasure helped me understand that my business comes first above all else. I want the world to understand faith is what got me here and understanding the principles of uncertainty. Uncertain of what tomorrow will bring but still putting action towards your craft as if it were, is faith.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my girlfriend was in town for a week the schedule is as follows:
Monday: My cooking
Tuesday: My cooking
Wednesday: My cooking
Thursday: Happy Hour Miyako OR Jason Uptown
Friday: Happy Hour at Bar 2200 Liberty Taco & Cafe Mawal
Saturday: Brunch at the Buffalo Grille
Sunday: Grace Church @ 10am then SUNDAY FUNDAY anything goes
If I’m being real, anyone that visits me in the H, refuses to go out to eat which I’m honored. I’m usually happy to host a girlfriend that comes in town but what must be done is mandatory in Houston is Sunday Funday.
Miyako is a gem and will always be a gem for happy hour and much more. Jason Uptown just opened in the galleria area and any place that welcomes me in with a glass of champagne in hand is a place to return to plus the food is delicious. Liberty Taco has the BEST baja shrimp tacos and breakfast tacos. Cafe Mawal and Bar2200 is a vibe whether you want to smoke hookah and eat. Buffalo Grille is a country down home breakfast feel and you probably might be the youngest in the room but that breakfast hits totally different.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My credit goes to Corporate America because without it, I wouldn’t have known what I’m seriously capable of outside of my yearly salary.
