We had the good fortune of connecting with Rico Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rico, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is my customer service. I truly believe that customer service can take you so far in life. The consumer is the growing block that controls your business growth; therefore, it is imperative that you treat each one golden. How you treat your customers, your communication with them, and how you make them feel as soon as they have initial contact with you are all things they do not forget. The services I perform can sometimes be intimidating, so it is extremely important for every person who calls or walks through my door to feel comfortable, trust me and to feel like they’re in a safe place. I do this by being honest, friendly, communicative and being a listener. By doing this, naturally and authentically, my wonderful customers end up becoming my loyal clients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The service I am most known for is called “Ombré Powder Brows”. Ombré Powder Brows is a service that uses a needle to implant pigment beneath the skin to create eyebrows. Basically, I create natural-looking eyebrow tattoos. We use science, math, and a great deal of detail to create the perfect brow shapes for each individual client. The service is so detailed that being off one millimeter can ruin the entire shape and symmetry; therefore, one would absolutely have to have a keen eye for art and detail in order to be successful with this service. Outside of measuring, a person would have to just have a natural eye for what looks good. In 2016, I saw someone perform a similar service for the first time, and I was instantly intrigued and fell in love, researched, and took the next open course. I was actually one of the first to offer the service in Houston, TX and had no idea how to gain clients with this innovative service. Since I was one of the first, it was surprisingly not as difficult as I thought to get started because people wanted to be the first to experience this new trend. I still wanted to stand out so I set myself apart by being the very first mobile artist in Houston as well. The difficult part came because I battled within myself with my full time nursing career and permanent makeup (PMU) as my side job. I knew that I was naturally good but I was hesitant to leave my career and job security behind so I continued to do both. In 2020, I decided to give full time a try and that’s when I opened up my shop and started accepting full time clients. Once my schedule opened up full time, my calendar booked up more. I definitely wish I would have went full time sooner. The biggest lesson I have learned throughout this entire process is you have to have faith and listen. When you ask for guidance, sometimes it is best to just take that leap of faith and trust that you will be safely guided in the right direction and protected. Everything about my brand is creative and modern. I wanted my business name to stand out, represent my personal style, be different, and most importantly, be impossible to mix up with another business name. For weeks I researched to make sure no one had a unique name that I was looking for, and in September 2018, I rebranded and changed my name to KVinti Beauty. Vinti is Italian, and it means to win, to have won, or to defeat thoroughly, and I feel like I’m doing that. The “K” is for my middle name. My shop represents my personal style. I am basically a tomboy who loves luxury. I decided to mix royal blue with a luxury feel to embody my personal style within my shop. Each time I walk into my shop, I am super proud of what I created and that it fully represents me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love music, culture, art, and extreme sports; therefore, my ideal perfect day would be a combination of all four. Houston has a plethora of museums with beautiful art so I would bring someone to those museums. I am definitely a dare devil so Skydive Spaceland to jump out of planes or race car tracks for speed would be a top choice. For a variety of food, drinks vibes or music, a few places I would take a friend to are Mastro’s, James Harden’s Thirteen, Taste Bar, and Georgia James. Midtown has an amazing strip in walking distance that allows people to stop in and try out multiple places on a nice evening. Houston is a great “outdoorsy” city which is perfect for me because I am an outdoor and water person, so Hermann & Memorial are some great parks to visit with lots of greenery and activities. I am super spontaneous so waking up daily and researching different adventures would be right up my alley.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout-out my amazing mother. She is the strongest, independent, most loyal person I know. She literally will do anything to make sure her family is taken care of. Growing up, she always sacrificed things for herself in order to make sure we had everything we needed. She’s always been a hard worker & made a way to get things done. Although I have a natural born hustle inside of me, a lot of that comes from watching how hard she always worked to support her family. She always finds a way; she’s the true epitome of a female hustler so I followed in her footsteps and just took it a step higher.
