We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Antonio Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan Antonio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Results. It comes down to one of my favorite phrases, “Say what you mean and mean what you say”. In short, we provide affordable programs, help our clients understand what it will take to be successful in our or any other program, and follow through with everything we promised to deliver.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I absolutely love how my training facility makes personal training what it should be which is personal. So many individuals want to try different things in gyms but don’t because of everyone watching. That is something all our clients have mentioned before and thanks to the way we structured this gym, we are able to keep everyone’s personal training relatively personal. Building this gym out was not without its challenges though. I spent the first 2 years constantly coaching clients during business hours, sometimes more, then finding myself spending the rest of the time buying and selling used equipment to be able to buy equipment for my gym. I was definitely not financially blessed with money to start my business but through 16hour days, I was able to overcome that financial challenge over time. The biggest lesson I have learned from all of this is that through hard work, patience, and lots and lots of effort you can achiever any and all goals. With a proper plan of course.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I honestly enjoy very simple things so my choices are relatively simple. For a casual lunch or dinner date one of my favorite places to go to is Pluckers Wing Bar. Started going there about 2-3 years ago and love their drinks and food. Overall a great place to go at any time. Now for some peaceful relaxation, the beach down in Galveston is a great place to sit, enjoy the wind, stare at the endless water, and get away from your daily stress.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for my parents. My mom, Maria, always being someone, I can talk to about anything and my dad, Juan, making sacrifice after sacrifice just to allow me to pursue what I wanted. Without their support I would not be able to do what I do today.
