We had the good fortune of connecting with Rico Boone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rico, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe that if you truly have a passion for something, you will do whatever it takes to make the most out of it. Art itself has always been a way of life for me. To me, it’s like the best form that allows me to be creative as I want to be. I think back to when I first got into graphic design. I thought it would just only be a hobby or something to just kill time with. However, I found myself becoming more invested into it and I began to love the progress I was making. That was my confirmation that this is what I really wanted to do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a strong passion for graphic design since I was 14. I started out by creating custom Bebo and MySpace layouts as well as creating profile graphics for my friends. Forward to 2018, I decided to take things with a more serious approach as I took interest into sports design. At the same time, my brand CreatedByRB was born, and the rest is history. My ultimate goal is to land a full-time gig with a sports team or the entertainment world doing what I love which is to create!
I think the biggest lesson I have learned during my journey so far, is to never be afraid to be different. I feel like art can be defined in so many ways. It’s never a right or wrong way to create art as everyone’s approach can be different. My style is an expression of who I am. At the same time, I allow myself to be open to learn as I am always finding new ways to evolve my style.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still learning about good spots in the Houston area myself, so I don’t really know much lol. I will say that Turkey Leg Hut is a must visit for sure!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would like to give a shoutout to my family, friends, and people who have supported me throughout my journey. To my forever big 3 Leo, Matt, and Bryan, you guys have definitely played a major role in my life with the lessons y’all have given me. To my bro Shakeil, I thank you for being the amazing person that you are. You really helped me see the great potential in me that I didn’t even see myself. I appreciate it so much. I love y’all!!
