We had the good fortune of connecting with Willy Felton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Willy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Although I work like crazy, I’ve always believed that the concept of freedom and peace came with owing your own business. Being able to set your own hours, control your day, and ultimately, control your destiny made more sense to me than working for someone. I also started Already Entertainment to control how I create and release music. I don’t have any constraints, nor do any of my artists.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a rapper by the name of Mr. Sleepy. I own my own label, Already Entertainment. What sets me and the entire label apart from the rest of the industry is that we make our own rules. We are professionals outside of the music. We are already successful by our own standards. The music is the dream that we get to live because of it, I think being a genuine individual, a scholar or someone who’s always learning, makes me a more relatable artist once people take the time to listen. Although I am nowhere near my goals or final destination, getting this far is a blessing. I’ve overcome several bouts of anxiety and depression that has slowed my progression, but it’s those same battles that have made me stronger and allowed me to make better music. The music is the therapy I’ve needed and if I can say that I’ve learned anything through my trials and tribulations, it’s that peace and happiness are way more valuable than money.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, my best friends are all from Houston so they probably know better than me. But for any outsiders, I’d first bring them to the Galleria. That is my go to for everyone! If we’re eating, we have to eat Turkey Leg Hut, but to go because I’m not a fan of crowds. Then knowing the type of people I’m around, we’re good hopping places in Midtown for nightlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my late father. My father and I had a relationship most like me aren’t blessed with. He made me everything I could possibly think of being. Losing him in 2018 was traumatizing, to say the least, but it’s everything that he instilled in me that has allowed me to come back from it. I would also like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife, Ashley Felton, and my best frienf, Travis Hughes. Ashley reminds me that nothing is more important than family, peace, and happiness. Travis is the epitome of a well executed plan with all his success in life. These are the muses to my music.
