We had the good fortune of connecting with Ridgemont4s Finest and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ridgemont4s, how does your business help the community?
Being a black educator who is also a content creator has a profound social impact on the community. Through digital platforms, black educators such as myself can amplify our voices and reach a wider audience, sharing our knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with others. As a content creator, I use my platform to address social issues affecting black and brown communities, such as systemic racism, special education misconceptions, and educational inequities that our students and teachers face. We also create content that reflects the diversity of black experiences, promoting a greater understanding and appreciation of our culture. By sharing our expertise and insights, black educators can inspire and empower others, particularly black youth, to pursue education and career opportunities that may have been previously unattainable. In this way, we can have a transformative impact on the community, helping to break down barriers and create a more just and equitable society.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart as an educator is my passion for creating meaningful and engaging learning experiences for my students. I am dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where every student feels valued and respected. As a content creator/teacher influencer, I am also committed to staying current with the latest research and trends in education, constantly seeking out new strategies and techniques to improve my teaching practice.
What I am most proud of is the impact that I have had on my students’ lives. Seeing my students grow and succeed, both academically and personally, is the greatest reward of my profession. There is nothing like getting emails from students showing me their college acceptance letters and thanking me for helping them get there. I am also excited about the opportunity to use social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to connect with educators from around the world, sharing ideas and best practices to improve education for all.
Getting to where I am today professionally was not easy. I faced numerous challenges along the way, from navigating complex bureaucracy to overcoming issues of systemic racism and discrimination. However, I persevered by seeking out mentorship, building a strong support network, and continuously working to improve my skills and knowledge. Through these challenges, I have learned the importance of resilience, perseverance, and self-care.
As a black educator, content creator, and mom, I want the world to know that my experiences and perspectives are shaped by my identity and the unique challenges and opportunities that come with it. I am proud of my heritage and am committed to using my platform to uplift and empower other black voices in education and media. As a mother, I strive to create a world that is more equitable and just for my children and for all children. I believe that education is a powerful tool for creating positive change, and I am dedicated to using my skills and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’m definitely a person who loves to eat, I would take my bestie to all of my favorite small business spots for a full stomach. We’d start with Take the Wheel in Fresno, Texas, then head to Steele Kitchen for some delicious soul food in Stafford, TX. Boutte’s BBQ in Fresno, TX would definitely be on the list, as well as Honore’s in Manvel, Texas for some amazing crawfish. For late night hangouts, we’d hit up Fontenot’s food truck for the best grilled chicken and loaded mashed potatoes in Houston. On Sundays, there’s an AMAZING lemonade truck near Pearland called Lemontails that we would have to visit. And since we were nearby, we’d get some stuffed shaved ice from Sno-Monster. Of course, our sweet tooth craving would send us to Sweetooth Cheesecakes in Missouri City, and for the best alcohol-infused cupcakes, we would call up Lynwood’s! Trust me, your taste buds won’t be disappointed.
