We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Bautista and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of the brand is creating a space where media reflects the population that consumes it which includes the growing market of USH and Latinx listeners and audience. The most important of that also is creating a space for the representation of Latina and Latino podcasters that are creating content.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Latina Podcasters apart is that we are women-owned and operated. What I’m most excited about is creating representation for podcasters in media. Changing the landscape of media one mic at a time. It all began when I started my podcast back in 2019, and I realized quickly that there was a lack of representation and decided to start a network to reflect the opportunities that were to come. It has not always been easy, but I’ve built a strong support group and also continue to build networks that help me create easier opportunities for myself and for the business.

I also make sure to maintain a healthy lifestyle and mindset in order to help me when things get tough. I remember that the most important thing in the world is to breathe and I continue to do that every day.

One of the lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that you should not take anything personally. This was probably the most important of the lessons. There will be partnerships and business deals, late payments, unsatisfied customers, and a massive amount of things when you’re in business that you’ll have to overcome, but if you learn to not take things personally and to keep moving even when the cards are stacked against you, success is inevitable.

I want the world to know that a Latina with no funds, no initial access to capital, and no initial investment began a company from negative $5,000 and brought it up to a million dollars in profits and continues to thrive and build this media company against all odds. I want them to know the resilience that is behind a migrant child’s will to succeed. I want them to know that representation matters and that the suppressed eventually become the next generation of wealth makers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say the first place I would start is all the parks. I’m going for a walk in Memorial Hermann and riding bikes in Buffalo Bayou. Then we’d grab some boba at the Tea House and then go and have a Voodoo donut. Then we’d maybe go to the Color Factory to go take some really awesome photos. We’d definitely go catch a game at the Dynamo Stadium or go to Minute Maid Park to watch the world-champion Astros play. I would obviously then have to take them shopping at the Galleria and last but not least check out the Temple down in Stafford, which I’m going to finish off my trip with my niece tomorrow. There’s so much amazing stuff. I would go to Chinatown too to eat and have some amazing dim sum or Vietnamese food or anything in that space. I would also make sure that they have crawfish at Boil House in the Heights because, as a Louisiana girl at heart, we have to make sure that we support our best crawfish boilers in the city. They’re also from Louisiana as well, so I’m a huge supporter of that. Then I would probably end the weekend off at Pinstripes before they head out to go play a game of bowling. Finally, we could wake up and have breakfast at Snooze and then have a drink of coffee at La La Land.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost my continued efforts on working on my mindset have been extremely important. I’d like to shout out Emmy Hernandez who has worked as a love and business coach over the last 2 years helping me stay on track and creating a space for me to talk about the growth ebbs and flows of being a founder. The book I’d like to shout out is The Alchemist because it talks about these journeys that we go through in life. As every founder knows, it can be challenging, as we go and seek something to help fix a problem. The journey is not always the easiest, but it is extremely rewarding, and in the end, sometimes, we find the answers right in front of us.
