We had the good fortune of connecting with Roiann Baskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roiann, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
It has taught me to take risks and try new things! It’s never too late to start something and when you are passionate about it, it never feels like work!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Birth Boot Camp Instructor. I became certified in October of 2018. Birth Boot Camp specializes in preparing couples for an amazing birth and breastfeeding experience. Through comprehensive online childbirth classes, incredible in-person childbirth classes, I am able to help couples educate themselves. I first became interested in becoming a birth professional when I started my own journey towards motherhood. It was so eye opening to me to see how something as wonderful as giving birth to a baby was so often feared and the processes surrounding it greatly misunderstood! I spent a lot of time researching as I prepared for the births of my own babies. From there I grew to love helping others prepare for amazing birth experiences, and encouraging them to be informed of their choices so they could give birth with confidence.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love living in Houston. There is so much to do and so many great restaurants to enjoy! These are some of my top spots to check out… 1) St. Arnolds Brewery & Buffalo Bayou Brewery- great places to relax, try some local craft beer and awesome views of the city 2) Heights- 19th Street- fun shopping experience 3) Hugos- best brunch I’ve ever had! 4) Pappasitos- you gotta have Tex-Mex. 5) Water Wall near the Galleria- very cool and a great photo op 6) Barnaby’s- casual lunch spot with the best french fries & honey mustard 7) Museum District- a variety of awesome museums/culture 8) Memorial Park- great trail to walk and people watch 9) Splashway- best water park in Texas hands down! It’s a little drive outside of Houston but totally worth it 10) Buccees- best place to stop for Texas treats and souvenirs
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to recognize Katy Birth Center and Birth Boot Camp. I had the most amazing birth experience at Katy Birth Center and it was there that I was introduced to Birth Boot Camp.
