Meet Roman Rabourn | Fitness Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roman Rabourn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roman, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I’ve always played sports and enjoyed them because of the camaraderie they brought to the players. Having played football from a young age, my fondest memories were in the offseason lifting, sweating, grinding with my teammates to get ready for the next season. After each workout, we’d all walk to class together and bond over how difficult the workout was and how much stronger and prepared we were from that intense workout.
As an adult with kids, I wanted to create the same environment for other adults and also for kids in the community. I want everyone to know the amazing feeling of completing a tough workout, being cheered on by your peers, and the feeling of competing against your neighbor. Then, afterward, laughing about it, bragging about it, and relishing in our accomplishment.
You don’t get that feeling at a regular gym. I built this gym to create community – to create a low-cost workout environment that you are encouraged to attend. Since starting, I’ve gotten to know so many new and different people. People I have seen at the grocery store, walking the dog, and at school functions. Now, we all come together to break a sweat and improve our fitness, tell stories and show off to our kids. That’s the kind of community I hope to create.

What should our readers know about your business?
I went to school and studied accounting. I was a professional accountant for 20 years, and it was a great career. But it’s not my passion. I love the physicality of working out, the sense of accomplishment, and I want to share that with others.
I love every aspect of the gym – the smell, the sweat, the sounds. It gets in my blood and pushes me to be my best for others. Most gyms want your money and to never see you again. I want to see people in the gym day-after-day, taking ownership of their health, their fitness, so they can feel strong and lead healthy lives. It’s never easy waking up at 5am to work out, but I’m inspired by those who are committed enough to show up and give their best. I’ll work hard for them as long as they keep showing up.
I want people to want to come to the gym, and I strive to create the kind of atmosphere that rewards people for coming to the gym every day. That’s what sets me apart from other places.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Woodlands Top 5:
1. Dosey Do – The Big Barn: This musical venue in The Woodlands is a hidden gem. It’s a small venue with no bad seats in the house. They often get Texas country artists who come in and aren’t afraid to show their authentic selves. And you’re so close to the act – it’s amazing! This place has been open almost 20 years, and the original founder recently passed away. Management is doing everything in their power to keep it true to its roots and open. There’s a magical sense to this place the second you walk in.
2. Paradigm Brewery: This local brewery has been open 6-7 years in Tomball. It sits on about 3 acres tucked away in the woods. They have an outdoor play area for kids, making this the ultimate family night getaway with neighbors. Good beer, good food, and great atmosphere. It’s a no brainer when you’re in town.
3. Olive Oil: This Greek eatery is a one-of-a-kind gem. I want to call it a hole in the wall joint, but it’s better than that. Tucked away inconspicuously in an old shopping center, you feel like you step into Greece when you walk in. Live belly dancing on Friday and Saturday nights, family friendly and great food! The service is awesome, too. I’ve never had a bad meal there.
4. Fieldings Local Kitchen & Bar (Creekside): For an easy and romantic dinner with your spouse, this place is a must visit. Great food, great cocktails, great patio! And it sits on Creekside Green with a splash pad and open space for kids to run around in a safe area. Fieldings is also a great lunch spot with great lunch specials. When the weather is nice, there’s no better patio in The Woodlands.
5. Cypress Academy Ninja – I wouldn’t let anyone leave this area without a workout at my gym, but I also wouldn’t let them miss the fun of a real Ninja Warrior course. Open gym on Saturdays is affordable and fun – it’s a great way to stay active with your kids. The instructors are both talented and friendly. They bring an energy that inspires you. Plus, they do Ninja night out for kids on Friday nights, providing an active night for your kids and a chance to get away and have some adult fun. This place is absolutely awesome!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, my next-door neighbor Jacob Loureiro (my good friends, Mike and Becky’s, son). Jacob is an 8th grader, and I came to him with an idea to create an app to share the workouts I’ve been programming. Jacob is the one who really inspired me to start the business and take the first steps to get it off the ground. I casually pitched the idea of creating a fitness app to him one afternoon, thinking no way an eighth grader could navigate the maze of the Apple App Store. Jacob pored over the Red Moon Fitness app getting it ready for release in just 4 weeks. The rollout of this app is what pushed me to really start pushing my gym as a business. Thank you, Jacob!
Second, my buddies Scott, Justin, JP, Aaron, Mike, Becky, Mark, Mo, Geo, Jake and Evan. They were the first to show up in my garage and trust my programming. They helped me create the idea of blending fitness and community as a business. Friends who invited friends who became a community of fitness enthusiasts. Thanks guys!
Last, my wife, who has always supported me and my passion for the gym and community. She did not always have the vision, but she was always a supporter of my dream to start a gym and fitness community. Thanks, Darlin, for always backing up my wild ideas.
