We had the good fortune of connecting with Romeo Harrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Romeo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was young my uncle was a huge source of inspiration for me. I realized early on in my life that doing a 9-5 for the rest of my life wasn’t it. So I seeked multiple way of try to have a way to express my creativity and one day I looked at a magazine for vogue and realized maybe I could be that person and no not the person who’s in the photo but the person who created the photo and I begged my mom for a camera at 15 and got one and started by photographing people in my high school and haven’t stopped since.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art stands for everything we can all be as artist you don’t need to come from any or know anything to make art all you need is to see into yourself and want better if your not passionate what is it all for? And I’m not completely where I’d like to be but I’m allowing myself to gain that experience and allowing myself to fail to see the brighter side, kind of like the glass half full. Things are hard but necessary all it has to fall back on is consistency in your work and in yourself! But the one thing I’d like people to see in my work, myself and this business I’m building is that you won’t stop seeing me and their isn’t an end for me but my work also speaks for itself and I can’t wait to capture more pieces and sit in awe all over again.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Id definitely start by showing downtown in itself and branching out to different wards there is so many truly amazing places in Houston! My favorite place for breakfast is brother tacos near east downtown and I’d probably go ahead and grab some coffee at double trouble on main st and I’d definitely recommend hanging at this park in alief called archbishop fiorenza park phase 2 it’s truly my safe space on top of the hills there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My uncle Reyes Ramirez was a part of my discovery of the creative individual I am today and why I seek to create more and also help others to try to get into the community here in Houston and see more into your own work.
