We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosslyn Randle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosslyn, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea of a podcast because I wanted to be heard. I had a lot of things to say and wanted a bigger audience to talk to. I wanted to voice my opinion about how I felt with things and just jumped into it blindly and feet first.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have created a podcast called Nights with Poison. The podcast gives an open conversation about life, love, sex and everything in between. My podcast is more than just someone talking, I am creating a vibe of safe space to speak freely about any topic and any subject that you would like to hear about. This can start with dating and go down to being a parent or even finding yourself. In creating this podcast I have become most proud that I had the courage to start this podcast and that I continue to work on it every day to get ready for the new season. The process of creating your own podcast is not easy. It takes a lot of work and dedication to ensure that you are staying on top of everything from writing the episodes out to recording the episode and getting the website updated on a regular. The best way to overcome the challenges of staying on top of things is to stay organized. I created to do lists and calendars to keep myself organized and focused on my goal of completing an episode. I learned that it is easy to want to give up but you can’t give up and you must encourage yourself to finish what you started, I also learned that you should believe in yourself no matter what or who is involved in anything. I want the world to know that I am creating a positive space to have open discussions about topics that may be difficult to talk about. My podcast and social media is here to show positivity, love, encouragement and love. They are both here to let you know that you will be great in this world and hopefully help anyone that needs the help. I am only here on this world to be a light for someone that may need it now or even in the future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from Houston there are so many places that you can visit and enjoy and embrace. The days would be filled with hikes and walks at some of the most beautiful places such as Houston Arboretum and Nature Center as well as the buffalo bayou or even Levy Park or Smither Park. This would show them that although Houston is a busy city they have places that are calm and relaxing. Once we are relaxed and chilled I would look for some cool places to eat lunch such as The Twisted Grilled Cheese, The breakfast Club or even District 7 Grill. These places create a vibe that you did not know you needed. The restaurants are quiet but relaxing, inviting, quaint and very chill. Later we would explore Houston an its Midtown, starting with Karaoke at Spotlight Karaoke to have some fun sing and maybe even get some drinks. Once we have relaxed a little we can then head to Lost and Found for more drinks and a vibe of good people, good music and excitement. There is also Taste Bar and Kitchen, Kamp Houston and also Bar 2200. Bar 2200 has live bands, great brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Prospect park is also a great place to grab some great food, drinks, music, the game and just have a great experience with your group of friends. One of my favorite places to visit is the art district of Houston, it is a very beautiful thing to see the different murals that have been painted and take some amazing pictures to keep as a memory. The color factory and the water wall are amazing places to visit as well. As I stated earlier Houston has so many places to visit, enjoy and embrace.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a few people that I would like to shine some light on for motivating me to move forward with my podcast. First, is my big cousin Tre. He has always encouraged me to be true to who I am and what I want to be and always wanted me to be bold and grow into who I am meant to be. Second would be my cousin Hiawatha, he showed me that courage is what we need in this world and the more people that have courage would create a strong world. He has over come so much in his life and has been successful in finding his true self. Third I would like to give credit to my son Izayah. He shows me everyday that being different is okay as long as you love who you are and the things you do in this world. I admire him for overcoming all the struggles he has had to deal with all while keeping the positive attitude.
