We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan & Emmanuel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan & Emmanuel, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Developing good habits become easier in life when you understand the path and the level of dedication it take to succeed at something. For us quitting drinking was a huge towards opening a business. It allowed us to safe extra capital to start and we developed better sleeping habits, giving us more rest and more focus during the long days.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We started Tatemó in January of 2020. We focus on the study and distribution of Masa & Tortillas, utilizing Native (heirloom ) seeds imported from Mexico. We also run dinners inside our production space on Saturday’s for six people utilizing the space to show case the diversity of Maiz with dishes that are inspired by local producers in Houston. Our mission is to educate our community on the importance of this crop and it’s proper value , starting with the people who have spend their life’s preserving it. Our biggest challenge came during the pandemic.. how do we justify selling one tortilla at .77 cents to people who might not have the extra income to support small businesses.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Houston food scene has grown dramatically!
We always take our friends from out of town to the Chef food halls. Not many cities have adapted that business model like Houston has. BBQ is definitely a must and Feges BBQ is our favorite. Dinner at Ostia is a must.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Both our families deserve All the credit in the world. They been a great support system through out the years. They have stood by our side with every life changing decision good or bad. We use them as a great resource for advice both personal and professional.
