We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Seema Desai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Seema, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity. There are a million other professionals who may do similar things to you. For me, there are so many other coaches, authors, and speakers out there. But none of them can offer what I do, because I bring my whole and authentic self to my offerings. We can support and celebrate each other’s authenticity and gifts, rather than view them as competition. Learning to do this and trust myself has been a process–yet so liberating.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a proud wife and mom of two young children. I am also Certified Professional Coach, speaker, and author of the newly-released children’s book, “Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides.” I currently serve as Co-President of the Austin chapter of Pratham USA, a non-profit organization aimed at creating learning equality for underserved children in India and globally. Though no longer seeing patients, I am also a general dentist who dedicated my years in medicine to serving the geriatric population in Austin and surrounding areas.
My coaching practice is primarily geared towards, but is not limited to, helping other doctors (particularly, other doctor moms) boost their performance, increase their wellbeing, and create more fulfillment and joy. I feel a deep sense of purpose in supporting others as they level up to be the elite version of themselves.
Along with yoga and traveling, connected parenting is a passion for me. I believe that helping a child connect to their inner wisdom is a powerful way to create the next generation of peace-leaders and solution-seekers. I am firmly committed to being a part of a kindness revolution, where we raise children in a way that helps families live life authentically and joyfully. This is why I wrote my new book, “Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides.”
“Connected” is all about teaching kids and their families how to navigate their emotions. It is a practical guide to understanding powerful concepts that alleviate the stress and challenge in tough situations. The book also includes tools and tips to help children become advocates for their mental and emotional well-being in productive ways, as well as thought-provoking questions to encourage young readers to think about how these tools would be uniquely relatable to them. Written to inspire children to become empathetic leaders and creative solution-seekers, “Connected” is a book that helps them not only understand themselves better, but also those around them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Austin is full of great food and activity options, so it really just depends on what people want to do when they visit. I tend to be a homebody, so I’m not the best person to ask about the latest and greatest in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends are always in my shoutouts–particularly, my husband and kids. I’d also like to thank my publisher and illustrator at the Jai Jai, LTD, Sunita Shah and James Ballance.
