We had the good fortune of connecting with Shacolby Shentell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shacolby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business came from the realization of my purpose. Having the opportunity to wake up and not only do what I love or do because it comes natural to me but in making it my business as well is truly a blessing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a lover of the arts. This includes music, poetry, acting, filmmaking, and writing. I think that’s what sets me apart, to be multifaceted in so many things and being able to express myself through so many different forms and this being my gift to give to the world. I am proud of the award-winning year including The Telly Award and Film Festival winnings for movies Sincerely Judy and Next Lifetime written, directed and produced by me. I’m most proud of surpassing the obstacles, the doubt, the fear. I proud of not giving up. Going after your dreams and goals is not easy but getting up and doing what you love makes it worth going through the challenges. Having a little faith and believing in yourself goes a long way. What I’ve learned along the way is to be ok with be uncomfortable. Getting outside your comfort is where you find the awards. With my brand I wish to tell stories to the world, to inspire, and to give opportunity. I wish to give an experience that will rest in your memory for a lifetime.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite thing to do is to eat lol. Some of my favorite places are Island 1515, Taste, Mikki’s Soulfood, Thirteen and 366 Sky Lounge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In this journey I have come across many people that have contributed to my growth as a business owner. People that have giving me their talent and time in exchange for nothing. I would like to thank my family, my husband Mitchell Harkless and my children who willingly sacrifice time with me so that I may build my business and walk into my purpose. I thank my team Malcolm Carter, Qasim Barnes, Jamaal Williams, Sonja Lowe, Felicia Williams, Denise Reed, Kimberly New, Keyanna Alexander, Quinton Stone and Damon Edwards. The list goes on and on. I have so many amazing people, leaders that I have learned from and many that just shows up for me know matter what I’m doing, and I love them all for it.
