We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Hsu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have limited photographs from my own childhood. I wanted to use my talent as a creative to provide for other families what mine lacked. As a mother, I want to remember every little moment, chubby finger, toothless grin, and milestone. Preserving time through photographs for families is my greatest aim as a business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When someone hires me to take their photos, I make it an experience. Families are going to remember the day they did a photoshoot with me because I make it memorable. You get to laugh, play and enjoy the ones you with— the perfect equation for a beautiful photograph. I also strive to make my pricing affordable, professional photography shouldn’t be a luxury. Every family deserves to chronicle their journey together through time.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Chinatown is one of our favorite areas to eat as it reminds my husband of his mom’s home cooking. Golden Dumpling House has amazing dumplings! We always get vegetable dumplings and dandan noodles. 85°C for some gourmet pastries and boba drinks is also a must! Gen Korean BBQ is a fun place to eat with a DIY tableside grill. Levy Park is a regular hangout for us, with small kids they have many activities and play areas for them to enjoy and for us to relax. We love the arts, Main Street Theater has many wonderful plays based on children’s books that kids love to see in action. If you’re looking for top-notch bundt cakes check out The Baker’s Man on Main street.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my amazing husband who always encourages me to believe in my dreams.
