We had the good fortune of connecting with Shalondra Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shalondra, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am born and raised in Houston, Texas. I was raised by a single mom until her passing in 1989. At the age of eight, I was raised by my maternal grandmother and grandfather. As a young child dealing with my mom’s death, I can not remember a Counselor making an impact on me. I struggled in the area of grief and anger. I decided to become an Elementary Teacher and later an Elementary Counselor. I have always wanted to be the Teacher and Counselor that I needed when I was a child.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Shalondra Moore is one of two Counselors at Goodman ACE Elementary. She has been in AldineISD for sixteen years. Seven of those years were spent as a classroom teacher and the other 9 years as an Elementary Counselor. She has taught grades Kindergarten, Second, and Third. Shalondra holds a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston-Main Campus and a Masters in Counseling from Prairie View A& M University. In her spare time, she loves to volunteer in the community with her church family and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She is a Mental Health Change Agent for children and is currently pursuing a license to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is a servant leader and believes that Mental Health is a gateway to Social and Emotional Wellness. She is the recipient of the 2021 Difference Makers in Education Award. This community award was sponsored by 97.9 The Box (Radio Station) and Mostyn Law Firm. College was very challenging and I overcame it by being persistence, my grandmother motivating me, and keeping my mother’s strength in my heart. I have learned to always reach back and mentor others that come after you. I would like the world to know that I lead with passion and purpose in every aspect of my life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots to visit are Kemah Boardwalk, Galveston Beach, and Seabrook. We can eat or drink at Papadeaux’s, Pappsitios, The Boiling Crab, 7 Spice Seafood, LA Crawfish, and That One Place. I like to hang out at concerts, Live Music Shows, Comedy Shows, Malls, and Candle Shops.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
