We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamarah Victorian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shamarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business comes from me being obsessed with phone cases, glasses, and accessories. I was at a point in my life where I wanted to have influence and make girls feel like they were different not because of who they were. Just so happen I had a friend who had a clothing business so talking about what I had wanted to do was exciting to them, so I was motivated right there to start my business. Nothing came easy, doing research and trying to find products that I thought were worth it was tough, but I got everything together and went from there. My family and friends supported me tremendously. I was scared but I went ahead and started the business journey. Having a brand and being an entrepreneur is entertaining and I would not change it for the world. The grind may go unnoticed But my results will not. Still till this day I am still grateful that I stepped out on faith and started my Accessory business. All my products are tested to make sure that they do not turn color or break. I may spend weeks or months testing out the quality to make sure I do not fail my customers. All the jewelry I sale can be worn in the shower and out at workouts but of course who wants to do that? Seeing people wear my jewelry out in public or them referring someone to me is a blessing ! I will never give up this dream, the BEST thing I ever did was BELIEVE in me. I’m building a brand so I am always busy.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called Voluptuous Hustle. The meaning behind my business name is having a luxury lifestyle while doing and wearing the accessories you love. I started my business 2 years ago, September 16,2019. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and ability to let others be themselves around me. I am most proud of how far I came in the business journey because when I first started off, I did things a certain way than I do now, and I am excited to keep growing my business. Learning how and where to get information from is not too easy but I always kept going and told myself never give up. Getting to where I have today involved me networking with friends, family and stepping out on faith doing what I wanted to do. No, it was not easy but nothing in life comes easy you always must put your all into something you want to grow to succeed. Staying consistent posting and pushing out new products always brought in new customers because I related to their wants. It was not always easy to keep pushing especially being the CEO, Marketing Manager, Financial Advisor & Promoter of the brand. The challenges I faced kept me together by my faith in God knowing I would not fail, my passion for my business makes me overly happy knowing I am satisfying my customers who continue to shop with me and promote my brand like it is their own. The lessons I learned encouraged me to branch out more and find information and other business owners with the passion to help young entrepreneurs in the making. Having hope that my business will get orders every day, all day is a dream in the making. One week could be a crazy flow of customers, orders, and marketing publicity while the next could be the rhythmic self-marketing, preparation, and prepping for what the business WILL be with no clients, orders, or outside marketing. I want the world to know that just because you see a business owner packaging orders or making it look easy just know that it took them awhile to get where they are in that moment. Never feel discouraged about your sales or progress, it is all a learning process that you must go throw just to get to where to you want to be and even after you still DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS! My brand will become successful, and I will not stop until I reach that moment in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had someone visiting Houston for the weekend on Friday, we would have fun at Palace Social. They have a full-service restaurant, bar & lounge as well as bowling and a 50-unit arcade room, so much more. After, if everyone wants to have fun next, we will get ready and head over to Space Night Club. Saturday morning, we would go to Flava on Richmond for Brunch, the vibe is overly exciting. They have amazing drinks, good, seasoned seafood, and wings! Next on the list is Seismique Museum, it is filled with immersive exhibits and stunning displays. Now if you want to get down and dirty, I suggest Xtreme Off Road Park to ride side by side atvs and four wheelers all throughout the woods. To end off the night Hush Lounge is the spot to be! Sundays Brunch spots are Lost and Found, Taste Bar and Black Walnut. They all have amazing food; drink flights are to die for and the mimosa towers. All spots are up to your choosing of how you like your environment. Now you cannot leave Houston without stopping to one of our malls and spending the rest of the day shopping! Woodlands, Memorial City mall or the Galleria are my top picks to shop and see the different sceneries.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ll start off with my Dad, he always encourages me to keep pushing, never give up no matter what. I’m thankful for him because if I need help with anything pertaining to how to push out my business or any advice he is always there. One day he hopes to start his food business and own a restaurant. My Dad is a great cook! By him having many health problems he still provided for me and my siblings and for that we are forever grateful. He always agrees to any business plan I come up with and wants me to reach my full potential, he’s my Biggest Supporter and for that I love him so much!
