Meet Shanell Goring | Art Event Curator / Bronx Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanell Goring and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanell, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
People are raised to believe you must devote your life to a career in order to be successful. But why not devote yourself to yourself. This is the model I live by. My happiness lies within my art. Therefore I started both Canvas Culture LLC and Bronx Poetry.

I wanted to create a business where I can share artistic experiences with the Bronx community and abroad. Starting mainly in The Bronx where a large percentage of the population is marginalized .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never really considered myself an artist. I just knew I loved it with all my heart. I started writing poetry and began to go to open mics . I would fall in love with the words of these poets and new The Bronx needed this type of platform. So I did just that I started Bronx Poetry. We began doing open mics weekly and today i am proud to say I serve as a booking agent to a group of phenomenal nyc based artsists.

Much like Poetry have always admitted visual art from afar. I would paint in my free time but would not dare share my art. I attended a Sip & Paint event and felt like you know what we need more of theses types of events . So I started Sip & Paint NYC which I changed legally to Canvas Culture LLc. Here is where we host and cures sip & Paints , body paint and an array for customized artistic events.

You never know until you try. My love for the arts has always been fuel to drive me to becoming an Entrepreneur. But I always thought I would have to keep my day job separate. Not realizing the is a power in duality. Cohesively these companies have help me achieve my goal in life which is serving the Bronx Community .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Sunday : Brunch at Angles , then take a walk on West 4th street.
Monday – take a walk across the Brooklyn bridge (Mondays are the best days no crowed)
Tuesday – Take a walk in Pelham Bay Park (Check out the secret beach)
Wednesday – catch the water taxi along Manhattan , dinner at Mama Sushi
Thursday – Bruch at The witches brew Cafe Whaa best life music .
Friday Dinner at The Last Stop they have the best Butter Wings and Cauliflower Tacos – Dancing at The house of Yes
Saturday – Drive up to nautical mile and spend the day enjoying the water and local cuisine

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a lot of of growth to Lehman College , CUNY Peer Leaders and Momentum Education . I have began my journey these gave me the tools I needed to believe in my dreams.
