We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business was built out of necessity. I’ve always loved writing, and now that I’ve gained the opinion of my family and friend that I as good at what I do, my business was birthed. I turned my passion into an income and I haven’t looked back since. At this very junction in my life I was also preparing for a move from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Houston, Texas. Accepting all the changes that life came with, being in a new city, a new income wouldn’t hurt.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my writing apart for others is the tailoring to individual people and/ or places. Because I started my business three years ago, I have been granted opportunities to write, full time, in a different style than I was used too. It was not easy, but it progressed in a very natural way, I would say. The main lesson I’ve learned along the way is that when a door opens, I should walk through it and everything I need will be added to me or its already there. I want the world to know that I am a vessel for what I do. I am lead by love and light and what I produce is crafted specially for you. Yes I’m smart but I’m not that lucky, I am blessed to get to do what I love as I pour goodness into my craft, I reap greatness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we would have a blast! As I am more active in this phase of my life we would have much activity, lots of outdoors, great music and amazing food!
Monday: Pilates @ 6:30 AM at Club Pilates, followed by lunch at Mikoto Ramen Sushi bar, spend sunset or nightfall at the trails of Memorial park.
Tuesday: Breakfast at London’s café, spending lunch time at exhibits of Post Oak, and attending yoga that evening at Discovery Green park.
Wednesday: A slow morning with weight lifting at the nearest Planet Fitness, followed by sandwiches from Central market, a great nap, and an evening of fun at Avant Garden for poetry night, followed by a nightcap at Waves @ Avant Garden and/or Reggae Night at The Flat.
Thursday: I would love to attend 10am meditation at Current meditation followed by lunch at Layal for great Mediterranean cuisine and getting some rest for the weekend.
Friday: A morning walk at Buffalo Bayou park, followed by breakfast at The Breakfast Klub, and an afternoon nap to prepare for the night at a concert at White Oak hall or 713 Music Hall.
Saturday: Yoga @ the farmers market, followed by Brunch at Taste Bar and shopping at the Galleria.
Sunday: A morning walk at Memorial park, church at Higher Dimension followed by brunch at Lucille’s or The Warwick before she heads home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my organization play a big part in the success I’ve achieved so far in my life. Ten years ago, as an ungraduated student I joined a Black Greek Letter organization, Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc. As a first generation college student, with zero support from home, and a future that I was building brick my brick, my organization instilled in me that I was destined for greatness. Witnessing the sorors before me, become very successful in all endeavors, gave me the realization that I could do whatever I dreamed of doing. In my lineage of my sorority chapter, Alpha Tau, is the most beautiful, intelligent, creative women I’ve ever seen. This has been the fuel to my lighter as I embark on challenges and creative paths for myself in my adult life.
