We had the good fortune of connecting with Shante’ Holden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shante’, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The very common quote “without risk there is no reward” is one that greatly resonates with me. Not only does it apply within my career but in my life as well. At the age of 17 I moved to Houston from Japan without ever visiting, with no family or any friends in the city. This was by far one of the most rewarding decisions that I made but felt like a huge risk and almost a mistake at times. After 8 years, I have made Houston my home, started a professional career in Health Administration and started a Short Term Rental business as well as a Consulting business where I teach people how to start their own Short Term Rental business. When it comes to taking the risk I like to asses the situation and weigh the outcomes but I try to remember the bigger the risk the bigger the reward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently serve as the Lead Business Operations Coordinator for Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. I have been at BCM for 3 years but it all started at THE Texas Southern University. There I studied Health Administration and through networking obtained several internships that contributed to me landing my position at BCM. Through navigating the corporate world I have learned to trust and believe in myself. It is also very important to align yourself with people who not only want to win for themselves but want to see you win as well. I dedicated myself to being the best version of me that I could be professionally and personally. I am simply most proud of the fact that I came to Texas at such a young age with no real clear path of what I wanted but I had the burning desire to be successful. Through the ups, downs, and uncertainties I never gave up on the success that I set out to achieve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me Houston is all about the food and a good time! I would recommend trying some of Houston’s staples like Lotus Seafood, The Turkey Leg Hut or for variety the Galleria Food Truck Park!! For great drinks, good food and good music I really love Lost and Found in Midtown.

As far as things to do I highly recommend checking out one of the many breweries or an interactive museums!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family – more specifically my mom! She has single handily served as an amazing example of excellence and my number one support in every thing that I aspire to achieve. Without her consistently being in my corner to guide, love and support me there is absolutely no way I would have gotten to this point!
