We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharice Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharice, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I came up with the idea for starting my business by looking in the mirror. Honestly, I didn’t like what was starring back at me. I had be come an extremely overweight, chronically ill individual and I was determined to do something about it. So, I formulated my own weight-loss plan of diet and exercise and began to execute. I didn’t stop there though! I knew there were other people out there who were just like me and that needed help and encouragement and from an epiphany and desire to help others Fitaholix was born!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My professional career has been customer service and sales based! I currently am an employee of a Fortune 500 Insurance company. However, all of my passion has went into the creation and operation of my business Fitaholix LLC. Staring Fitaholix was semi-easy at first because I used a Christmas bonus to pay for my website, marketing and credentials. I learned very quickly that running a “successful” business” was NOT as easy, however I never gave up! I’m a firm believer in “word of mouth” marketing, so I took to multiple social media platforms to get the word out about Fitaholix! I also wrote an ebook, “First a Habit, Next a Lifestyle” that was released shortly after my website went live that had moderate success on Amazon upon release.

My journey as a small business owner has been littered with lessons. The most important ones were, don’t rely on family and friends to patronize your business and if you want something done right…do it yourself!

Patience is key and growth can be slow, however slow growth beats no growth! Therefore, I want my brand to be associated with “sweat equity”. I have poured my blood, sweat and tears into my products, with the goal of helping others live healthier lives, holistically and affordably!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If my best friend was coming to visit, I would take her on a vegan taste tour of Houston! Houston is know for it’s plethora of diverse offerings, so we would definitely try out a few. Then, I would take them on a tour of historic areas/wards in Houston. We would exercise along Buffalo Bayou, take the 610 loop to 3rd Ward to eat at Mo’Better Brews and then hop on I 45 and head towards Galveston, to lay out and get some Vitamin D! Rinse and repeat every day that she was here, wake up, workout at one of our famous parks, eat and enjoy some of the sights. I would love to take a bicycle tour in downtown Houston, take in a movie rooftop, bar hop in Midtown and shop at the Galleria. Not to mention going to the Museum District, taking in a game from one of our awesome teams and lastly attending an outdoor concert at Miller Amphitheater.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I wanted to dedicate my shoutout to my father, Larry Wayne Miller (deceased) & mother, Melody Miller. And my five children. My parents instilled within me my burning entrepreneurial spirit and my children continuously motivate me, fueling the courage needed to change my life and start my business!
