We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Kapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Everyone has a duty to become a better version of themselves over time. Using their challenges as opportunity for learning. We call this Dharma, Sacred Duty in Sanskrit, the ancient language from the Indian sub-continent. Being raised by a strong single Mother to be thoughtful, independent, dependable, caring and pro-active, I decided the best way to honor my upbringing was to put this into practice as a service, launching Houston Yoga & Ayurveda Ashram Inc., to bring these core communal qualities into the fabric of daily living through the practice of Yoga; the union of breath, body & mind, and Ayurveda; the science of self healing through becoming one with nature. One of my core beliefs is in the power of “each one, teach one”. We started this center to bring back the sense of community wellness outreach through each individual who trained, learned or participated in this philosophy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Houston Yoga & Ayurveda Ashram Inc., is a healing retreat in the heart of Cypress, (NW Houston) in Texas. Located on prime land, In the midst of three acres of forest, we have created a one of a kind off-grid oasis. What sets us apart is there is no other healing facility that is powered by Solar, Well Water, Septic, Organic medicinal trees, fruit, herbs, wildlife, chicken, fish and a multitude of visiting birds, bees, butterflies and natural wildlife. We are excited to share our facilities for indoor and outdoor yoga, lectures, learning and life changing classes. We offer Yoga Teacher Trainings, Yoga Therapy, Ayurveda, Marma, Reiki, Healthy lifestyle education, Cooking classes, Medicinal herbology, Spirituality, Stress relief, Metaphysical treasures and more. Our popular Arched Cabin Retreat, hosts accommodation for eight, while our unique tree house hosts a comfortable space for two. Our business philosophy is to treat everyone as a member of our loving family. It has been a blessing that teaches us “authenticity is the best policy” in business, no one can copy that, as it looks different for each person. We would love to inspire everyone to tap into their own inherent qualities to create their own version of success by liberating them from limiting beliefs and habits. We would love the world to know that success lies in heartfelt service, dedication to showing up and doing your best. If we can achieve it, so can you. Let us show you how.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’ve had many visitors from all over the world. They are all drawn to our location primarily because it spoke to their soul in their search for inner tranquility. Everyone is looking to find meaning in their life, balance in their experiences, and a sense of value on their journey. Our visitors enjoy yoga classes here, Massage, and healing body therapies, Cooking classes, Meditation, Reiki, and Ayurvedic healing on premises. Within a few miles of us one can shop for authentic, mouthwatering Indian meals, at the Kurrywalla in the strip mall down the street from us, Japanese & Chinese cuisine, Yogurt Ice cream from Orange Leaf, Traditional American food and delicious desserts & baked goods from The Bake Shop, Sams Restaurant and Kilburns Tavern with crafted beers and live music, Pho & Mexican cuisine. Nature walks, kayaking and bicycling nature trails at the local parks, trails and bayous. Art & Craft classes at the Purple Elephant, and music & art classes at All About Music & Art. Local Theater, Farmers markets, Boutiques, Horse riding, Motorbike paths, Movie theaters, local & outlet shopping, Bars, Churches, Temples, and so much more. One is perfectly able to retreat within oneself, or to take oneself out to town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No one can do it all by themselves. To be truly abundant, one must be open to receiving, giving and sharing all that makes life worthwhile. I attribute every success to my family upbringing, cultural education, the unwavering support of my spouse, Christean Kapp, my family, and the community that came together to make this dream a reality. Everyone has played a unique role for this endeavor to appear effortless and effective.
