We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaye Mueller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaye, how does your business help the community?
I provide mental health services in my community for people who have been through trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and perinatal mental health issues. I think that I help people through the most tender, fragile places in their lives. I don’t work on a large scale, but instead on the individual level. While I don’t reach the masses, I believe I am doing my part. I believe in the ripple effect of the lives I touch. I have seen clients heal their relationships, help others, and contribute to the world in their own special way. And I am so grateful to be a part of it. I think it matters.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own and operate a small private practice in the Houston area. I provide mental health and art therapy services in my office and via telehealth. I think what sets me apart is my unique training in both somatic work and art therapy. With my foundation of clinical training, I fuse the three practices together to offer people more holistic healing.

Starting my business was not easy- I always joke that it took a little bit of cash and a lot a bit of delusion. I did it in the off hours from my previous job, planning, saving, and scheming into the late ours of the night when I wasn’t working for someone else. I joke about being deluded, but what it I’m really referencing is faith in myself. Faith that I could actually create something out of nothing. And maybe help some people along the way. Faith, confidence, and community are how I made it through.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the city would have to be Tiger Den for ramen, farmers markets, bookstores, and the museum of natural science! I’d probably spend time taking in the city’s parks as well. I love this city with all my heart- it is home after all. But I am more of a homebody, so I’d likely focus on quality time doing puzzles, catching up, and taking in the sunny days over anything else.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my clients. Clients, if you are reading this, I pour my heart into this work for you. I am so proud of you, in awe of you, honored to be a small part of your life. What a privilege to know your heart.
