We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheleana Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheleana, what principle do you value most?
Faith is the value that matters most to me. My faith has kept me grounded and kept me sane as I have navigated the different adversities that I have faced and overcome in life. My faith guides me along the path that God has created for me and honestly it’s only when I’ve stepped outside of faith to operate in flesh that I’ve faced really hard times. Now, don’t get me wrong, faith does not make life a walk in the park. There will always be trials which are needed for growth. Faith makes things possible because it helps me to see it, and I know that if I can see it, I can have it or do it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I grew up in Rolling Fork, MS, a small town, and my high school didn’t teach us how to balance a checkbook, how to establish or maintain credit, nor how to obtain financial freedom. Growing up I had my needs and most of my wants met, but again, there wasn’t any teaching on financial literacy or how to make my money work for me. Likewise, I grew up within the typical “do as you’re told” culture, so I didn’t really learn how to properly navigate my mindset or to cultivate my emotional intelligence levels. The Promised Legacy was birthed out of the promise God gave me to break the poverty mindset and generational curses from my bloodline and establish a solid foundation of financial literacy and generational wealth and my purpose to create a ripple effect of positive impact throughout the world by teaching women how to define their version of success and how to align their mindset, goals, and behaviors to create the lifestyle they desire.
I wholeheartedly believe that I am the chosen one in my family who was created to take a stand and say “This may have happened for generations before me, but it stops here”. What sets me apart from most is the fact that I teach from personal experience as well as professional training. I’ve been through infidelity in a marriage where I lost sight of who I was and accepted less than my worth, I’ve been through a divorce, I’ve been at a 400 credit score, I’ve been in overdraft month after month before, I’ve been overlooked and overqualified at an unfulfilling job, I’ve been depressed and medicated, I’ve been lied on and talked about, I’ve stepped away from my faith, I’ve faced hardships some couldn’t even fathom, so not only can I be sympathetic in my approach…I can be empathetic as well. I’ve made the mistakes, but I’ve learned the lessons and done the work to allow God to put me in a position to help others avoid those same pitfalls or come out of them a lot quicker than I did.
I am proud of the woman I am continually becoming because this woman lives a lifestyle that teaches her son that no matter what life throws your way, you can rise above it and overcome anything. I am proud of the fact that I didn’t give up on me and God didn’t give up on me, so I can (virtually) stand before you, share my testimony, and help you discover yours as well. God did not create us to navigate this world alone, He has strategically placed people along the path to help you. I know I’m that person for a lot of people out there and “The Promised Legacy” is the vehicle I’m purposed to utilize to help those individuals. I want the world to know that it is actually a smart decision to hire a Life Coach/Lifestyle Strategist to teach you how to achieve the life you desire to live. You do not have to do it alone.
I want to leave you with these two thoughts:
1. The mind is one of the most valuable resources you have in your arsenal of weapons for life. If you learn how to adjust your mindset according to where you are in life and where you desire to go, you’ll be unstoppable.
2. Focus on the things that God places on your heart to do and watch how much more favor and blessings are showered upon you. (Matthew 6:31-34 NKJV)
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I both love good food and great experiences with amazing people, so our week would go a little something like this. . .the first day would be us hanging out at my house devouring a home cooked meal and a good bottle of wine while catching up on everything (business and personal). Over the course of the week we would dine at Godfrey’s, Thailicious, Sal and Mookie’s, and One Guy Steak and Chicken to name a few. We would do a little shopping at the Outlets of Pearl in Pearl, MS and Renaissance at Colony Park in Ridgeland, MS. We would get loose at the Breakit Smash Room and maybe indulge in some ax throwing at Black Axes. Then we would have a relaxing afternoon at Soul Spa at the Westin in Jackson, MS followed by a night out for dinner, drinks, and dancing at the historic Johnny T’s Bistro & Blues. We would end out week long trip with brunch at Iron Horse Grill enjoying live music, good food, and people watching.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, Clara B. Myles, who passed September 25, 2021 from Covid-19 complications. Well technically she’s my great aunt, but she raised me as her own since I was two years old. She taught me to be relentless in the pursuit of my goals. She was known as the life of the party and part of the glue that held our family together. She instilled a sense of responsibility in me to be a woman of my word and to always try to do right by others. She was always present at every event, big or small, and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that if nobody else had my back, she would always cover me. So, shoutout to her in heaven, I miss her so much.
