We had the good fortune of connecting with Simran Dagla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simran, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To be honest, it was an impulse decision. We’d had a yard sign placed for my brother’s birthday and I was intrigued by them. After school went virtual in March of 2020 due to covid, my brother and I borrowed some money from our parents and started OMG YARD SIGNS. We received 12 orders after our first post on social media. And that was the start of OMG YARD SIGNS.

What should our readers know about your business?
OMG YARD SIGNS isn’t your average yard sign company. Our signs are big, bold and colorful, and we customize each sign with accents of things that the recipient likes. My motto is : Let me put an OMG smile on your loved ones faces 🤩🤩

I started OMG YARD SIGNS during the covid lock down period. It took off with my first post on social media, @omgyardsigns

It hasn’t been an easy ride. Storage was a major issue and we’ve had to rent two storage units to store our massive inventory.

I’ve done 1400 yard signs in the last one year. There were some 12 hour days but the morning messages and pictures I received from those celebrating their loved ones made my hard work so worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hope she comes in March so I could take her to the RODEO. We’d do the traditional rodeo events during the day and watch some pretty awesome concerts at night!!

I’d also take her downtown, to Discovery Green, through the tunnels downtown and maybe eat at Finn Hall. It would be fun to go up to the top of the Esperson Building and view the Houston skyline.

Buffalo Bayou Park would be wonderful too! We’d rent a kayak and take the cistern tour as well.

I’d definitely take her to walk about the beautiful Rice University campus and stroll through Herman Park.

Of course we’d have to take pictures at the We Love Houston sign as well.

I’d take her to Peli Peli in the Galleria for the yummy Peli Peli chicken and the toffee pudding for dessert.

Chinatown would also be a great place to take her. We’d have satay and nasi lemak with beef rendang at Paparich Malaysian . And Mango Bingsu at snowy village. And an hour long foot massage at kings spa on Bellaire!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My brother, Sameer, who’s been my driver (I’m 15), and my assistant.

And of course my parents- who’ve always taught me to be independent and strive to achieve more.
