We had the good fortune of connecting with Spider GeMo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spider, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art is everywhere. Art is inevitable. I believe art is one of the most universal languages of all time. Whether it be you taste, sight, or even hear it, whatever of your senses it may be, it gets a point across! Reason why I decided to take cosplaying seriously. Because often I never saw people as expressive as me growing up. Whether we were the same shape or color, I was normally left out of things as a child up till now. So when I get out there and model or whatever it may be in the cosplay community, I want to pay the path for those who feel left out so they can too feel seen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cosplaying I feel like it’s a beautiful form of expression. However, when things become too repetitive can feel a little dull. I don’t necessarily want to a 100% copy off of the original because even so, the original is not me. So I like to adjust the couple. Things to make me feel more like, “This is me and how I see this certain character.” It took a lot of undoing a lot of my self hate, wanting a creative outlet, & The bullied in my past for wanting to express myself. Remembering, I’m now an adult and I’m more “Me” than I was back then to go out there and do it! I’m no Master at overcoming challenges. I’ve still go through challenges every day. But if it was too easy, then it wouldn’t be as exciting. Same for when I do BDSM or Burlesque things. Whatever it is I do as a Black Dominatrix Cosplaying Woman, there will be trials. And I will go through all of them with my flogger, fishnets, & Mortal Kombat tattoo with a smirk and open arms to encourage others to just be you because YOU deserve to be impressed by someone else; yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Asia town in Katy Tx is one of my favorite places to go especially the ramen place called 3 Little Pigs. They do a build your own ramen pricing and its pretty yummy. Plus they have a cute little anime mural on the wall. In terms of relaxing I love to go to have a spa day and I have two places I go to often. There’s Spa World (Also in Katy) thats SUPER huge Has a lot of amenities like a sauna (one for men & one for women), movie room, salt room, etc! And theres another called Gangnam Spa (In Houston which if you dont have all day to relax I recommend this one as “express spa day” both are still incredibly relaxing!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a few people I want to shoutout. They have played a big role in my journey and I truly believe everyone deserves their flowers! First up is my best friend Yvana Meilo ( @marsh.meilo on Instagram) . She & I met in collage but I don’t think Either of us for saul are strong friendship together. She’s helped me in many ways whether it’s with her art, transportation to big events when Ihad no way there, or just words of encouragement when I was feeling my lost and wanted to throw in the towel, she was there for me and I’m grateful for her. Second up is Ricardo Cardenas; the greatest photographer ever to grace the planet (@rc.cosplay_photography/ @portraits_with_ricardo/ @ricardose_of_boudoir on Instagram). Though we’ve only known each other for almost two years, the bond we’ve created has been immaculate! His skills on the camera has helped me each time grow more and more confident in myself and my craft. Next up is Dolly Lace ( @octopusdollcosplay on Instagram) . A very unhinged creative cookie she is! But she’s also leader of the Nerdlesque Troupe: Tentacle Temptations ( @tentacletemptationsnerdlesque on Instagram) she asked me if I wanted to help start the troupe with her & I was very nervous at first but its like a love letter to my younger self because I can be myself and still show my love for dance, dressing up, & shining the way I want and others see it too! There’s also Rudy Campos I’d want to shoutout! ( @rcccreations / @mypet_monstergirl on Instagram) This man is an extremely talented & hilarious MUA who I feel could make anything on paper come to life. When we first worked together and he turned me into an alien, I thought I was dreaming! And last but not least, Rei Medrano ( @creativera1n on Instagram). The day one homie who has stuck by my side thick and thin in the community. In a way he’s been a mentor for me & became one of my closest friends & I’m grateful for that. Im grateful for all these people. I couldn’t get to where I am alone & I’m glad these people are in my life.
