We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Silva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I would like to have a style where someone can immediately recognize my art. I don’t seek notoriety but I do seek to fulfill my own desire of wholeness as an artist. I go back and forth between feeling like I have found myself as an artist with a specific, familiar style. Making enough money to not only survive but to thrive and teach others how to express themselves through drawing and painting.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to paint large and I’d like to go even larger soon once I have the space. I paint mostly portraits from the shoulders up, occasionally I will do a whole figure. It has been a bit difficult to find myself and my style and feel like the two mesh well and represent me. I keep thinking of how my work will look in the future but I know all I really have is the present. I learned that I have to sit with how I am now and know that it is enough, till tomorrow anyway. There’s no peace in vying for my future self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them for a morning class at Practice Yoga (if it wasn’t covid times). Maybe an early picnic at Zilker and then a swim at Barton Springs, typical Austin things. I love Peter Pan mini golf so definitely there. The food part is the hardest because there’s so much good food in Austin now but I would take them to Nixta Taqueria not only because they’re great friends of mine but because it’s got beautiful food and vibes. I’ve also been super into Loro lately so that’s definitely a go to spot. Night caps at Garage bar and Here nor There. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner Anthony has been the one person who has always believed in me and pushed me forward. He has helped me see the worth that I did not always see in myself. Watching him work and reach his goals time after time inspires me everyday. Thanks to him I’ve started taking myself and my work seriously.
