We had the good fortune of connecting with Sterling Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sterling, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
There are ten habits that I believe anyone must practice to succeed in life and business:
Healthy body: 30 minutes of cardio five times a week
Healthy mind: Spend at least thirty minutes a day reading a book. This is exercise for the mind.
Meditation/Spirituality: Meditate for 10 minutes each day. Try to completely clear your mind and become attuned to your mine, body, and soul.
Appreciation: Start each day with daily affirmations. Be sure to remind yourself how amazing you are, how you are comfortable with where you are in your life, and how today will be better than the last.
To do lists: Every night, before you go to bed. Write down three to five things that you would like to complete by the end of the next day.
Focus: Start each day focus on “The One Thing”. This is typically the most important task on your to do list and it usually requires the most time and effort. Do it first.
Goal planning: Every year, I come up with Annual goals for my business, family, and myself. Write those goals down and reflect back to them constantly. This is your road map and it will keep you in line with the things that are most important to you.
Healthy Eating: Your body is your temple and your most important asset. You must protect it at all costs. Focus on consuming natural and raw fruits and vegetables. Minimize red meats. Drink 6 – 8 glasses of water per day.
Find a coach/mentor: We all need accountability. Find someone that you respect and that is highly successful to be your sounding board, confidant, and counselor.
Develop a strong inner circle: Your ability to succeed in life is strongly connected to who you surround yourself with. If your they are highly successful, then this increases your probability to succeed. The law of attraction is very real.
What should our readers know about your business?
I should probably start with telling you a little about my story. I am a decorated Army Veteran who served my country for more than 25 years. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy with more than 20
years of experience. I started an outpatient Physical Therapy clinic in 2008, with the vision of providing fair and equitable healthcare for everyone. The name of this practice is Sterling Physical Therapy & Wellness. I now have four different clinics servicing the Greater Houston area. In addition to Sterling Physical Therapy & Wellness, I have opened several different businesses in healthcare with my business partner, Stephen Levi Carter, over the last ten years (Sterling Staffing Solutions (2011), Carter Brothers Consulting (2015), Home Health Pro (2020), My Med Cred(2020), Sterling PT at Home (2021), VIP Physical Therapy (2020), and Sterling Diagnostic Testing Services (2021).
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday: We would go to Keeper’s Japanese Restaurant in Missouri City, TX for the best Sushi in town. Hotel: I would have my best friend stay at the Post Oak Hotel in the Galleria area for an upscale 5 star stay.
Tuesday night: Dinner at Mastro’s Restaurant. Followed by movies at Ipic theater in River Oaks.
Wednesday: I would take them shopping at the Galleria and we would then stop by Joey Uptown restaurant for lunch, where they have complimentary champagne and a great atmosphere.
Thursday: Dinner at Tony’s restaurant. I would have him order the Grilled Branzino dish.
Friday night: Dinner at Eunice Restaurant followed by going to the hosuton heights area to bar hop.
Saturday: Brazos Bend National State Park for bird watching, bike riding, and hiking
Sunday: A round of golf at Blackhawk Country club in Richmond, TX
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my mother, Arnell White for her continued support and love. She was a single mom raising two twin boys and she sacrificed selflessly for us. I also want to thank my wonderful wife, Crystal Carter for putting up with my long work hours and countless meetings. She helps me to stay balanced and remember to stop and smell the roses. Lastly, my twin brother and business partner, Stephen L. Carter, MBA, who helps push me and we keep each other accountable on this journey of success.
