We had the good fortune of connecting with Sujuane Taylor Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sujuane, what’s your definition for success?
I define success by my ability to change the life of someone else. I feel we were all put on earth to help others in some fashion, as long as we’re doing that we will always be successful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m someone who never outgrew coloring in coloring books. I never imagined as a little girl that my coloring obsession would lead me to a life in makeup artistry. My ride as an entrepreneur hasn’t been easy by a long shot. I’ve had the typical growing pains: growing clientele, generating revenue, etc. The biggest challenge has been doing all of this and dealing with depression. I’ve always loved to help people so I decided to use my story of depression to create a nail polish line that helps other causes, including depression. This to date has been one of my proudest moments. The lesson I’ve learned is that helping others helps you. I feel that as long as you’re helping someone else, everything will fall into place. I’d like the world to know that SOO-WON isn’t just about enhancing people’s beauty on the outside, we’re also about transforming the inside as well.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Living in the Greater Houston area, we’re lucky to have an assortment of things to do. My friends know that I am a true foodie. So the first thing we’d have to do is eat! My favorite breakfast spot is Snooze in downtown Houston (they have multiple locations), it offers an amazing assortment of pancakes and everything is so fresh. I also love nature, so the Cockrell Butterfly Center in the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a fun spot to go during the day. Baybrook Mall in Clear Lake has a nice assortment of restaurants and outdoor seating for dinner and drinks, Rouxpour is one of my favorite spots there. Prospect Park is a lounge spot that’s also nice to eat, have drinks, and jam to some good music. They sometimes have karaoke if you want to test your skills on the mic in front of a crowd. The Galleria is a popular Mall to do some retail therapy if you need it. I love to laugh, so a trip to the Houston Improv is a must during a visit to Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God gets the credit always! I could not have done any of the things I’m doing without Him. My husband also has played a huge part in my thriving as a business owner. He encourages and supports me when I feel like giving up. He always gives so selflessly to me. I’ve been blessed so immensely.
