We had the good fortune of connecting with Supa Xtra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Supa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reason I decide to make music was because it’s something I’m very passionate about. Music has the power to change moods, start relationships, even inspire change and I want to give that side of myself to everyone out there that takes the time to listen to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started creating at a young age. Being able to share choreography with different artist while still being able to genuinely be myself is a blessing. I want the world to hear my music and have an experience. It’s more than notes and keys to sonically fit together it’s a moment and if you embrace the moment that’s when the magic starts. I want to inspire people to use there voice and talents because if you live in a box you’ll only stay in a box.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to Bodegas taco shop in the museum district for good food and drinks. Then we would hit the montrose area for night life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m inspired and blessed to be around so many talented people from my team at Loud Muzik, a black owned independent record label. My production team at the cook up studios Htx if any artist needs recording time that’s a place that feeds into creativity and pushes you to achieve goals you only dream of. Last but not least the Arthur / social activist Derrick Whitsett who writes books for children and adults that force you to have honest conversations about what’s going on in the world.
