We had the good fortune of connecting with Takesha Phelps and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Takesha, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite affirmation, that I like to remind myself and both my daughters Destinee, 27 and Arianna, 17 is, “She believed she could, so she did”. Although, it may seem to be a simple statement. It can also seem impossible at times but, when acted upon it’s unstoppable. To me the power of these words is to just believe and do it…. Believing in yourself is stronger than any force of nature yet for so many it can be very difficult to do. But I encourage myself, my girls and others to take hold of this truth and dare to believe in yourself! When you trust in God’s trust there will be amazing things that will happen when you do it with grace and patience. Although, it may take a little time but soon enough you begin to see the results of believing and doing. Most importantly having faith in God because nothing is impossible without him.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the owner of Creative Imaging Designs which is a small business that offers a range of customized full decorating services to A’ la Carte services for all occasions for weddings, anniversaries, birthday celebrations, bridal showers, baby showers, corporate and church events along with so much more. What sets up apart? We are dedicated and known for creating and designing the vision of each unique client. Taking care of the tiniest elements, so that our clients can enjoy their events as much as their guests. Because of my passion for creating a memorable event and a thoughtful awareness for the finishing touches. I’ve maintained a positive attitude throughout my 19 years in this industry. I can say that this journey has not been easy but, I continue to encourage myself by “NEVER GIVING UP” and knowing that nothing in life is supposed to be easy. It challenges you to keep pushing and striving for things you do out of this life. I know that in this industry they’re are a lot of talents and then there are some who are doing it with a different agenda in mind. Knowing that I am doing something that I love to do is actual creative work. Anyone can hire someone to set up an event all nice and neat. But, I use my creativity for each and everyone of my client’s vision in order to create a memorable event. I don’t see myself hoarding for every client opportunity and outsourcing the work they envision me to do. My customers come to me because of a previous event they have attended or a simple word of mouth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend is visiting from out of town, I would definitely take them to The Woodlands, Texas which is about 25 mins away from me. For a quiet afternoon of kayaking to a fist-pumping night of live music, a hike through the woods to strolling The Waterway promenade. I would show them the home to one of the largest and most dynamic collections of public art in Texas, including more than 50 outdoor sculptures. Do a little boutique shopping at Market Street. The Diva Boutique and French Cuff Boutique are my favorite two boutiques to shop at. Then we would have lunch at one of the best parts about visiting The Woodlands is the beautiful Waterway that runs throughout the area. At Churrascos, we can enjoy the bold flavors of South American cuisine and couple cocktails with all its fire and passion. For a memorable event, escape to the patio that overlooks The Waterway. Overhead sails produce a shade that makes even the sunniest of days quite comfortable or an evening that is simply elegant. I know my best friend, Kathy would love this if she was visiting from out of town. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am extremely grateful for my husband, Andre who is my biggest fan and supporter. He has always supported and encouraged me in my success. Even when there is down time for me with no events booked. Him knowing that I’m doing something that I love to do, plan, create and design all events for any occasions. I still have dreams for my small business that are still in the making of owning my own venue that means not renting or leasing I said, OWN!!! He would always say to me baby, “you’ll get it”. Although, he may not know the ends and out of this business. He pushes me to be excellent in whatever I’m doing. When I’m overwhelmed with logistics the first he would say to me, “either you’re going to do it or you’re not going to do it”. He may not say much about me doing both running my small business and working a full-time job in the medical field over 19 years. But definitely he would say, baby “Don’t stress yourself out”!!
