We had the good fortune of connecting with Sachet Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sachet, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Several years ago I was laid off from my job. I had to make the difficult decision do I go back into the corporate world or do I start my own business. It was a very difficult because at the time I had two children that were depending on me. I decided to take a chance.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The purpose of Pink Pearls Too is to educate teen girls and women on hair care and provide tools and tips to empower them to maintain healthy hair and prevent hair damage or loss. Moreover, to foster confidence, a positive self-image, appreciation for their hair texture and dismiss hair myths and stereotypes. Our vision of Pink Pearls Too embodies the belief that all women and their hair are as strong and unique as a Pink Pearl and this is true for all girls too. I started as a hairstylist behind the chair my clients would always ask me how can I care for my hair at home. So I started thinking about not only them but the women, girls that may not get to come to the salon. What would I do to help so I created this program. However it was not as easy as I expected. When I think of a non-profit I thougnt free that was not the case. So its been a slow process because it cost a lot to start a non-profit. I never gave up every extra dollar, donation I got closer and closer to my goals. I learned to believe in myself more and to give myself permission to make a mistake. This program is for every woman, girl that wants to learn how to care for her hair or daughter hair. I believe just as a pink pearl is strong and unique, so are women, girls and their hair too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with Lunch at Baccaillis Cafe they have the best fried catfish. I would take them shopping at Katy Mills Mall. We would end with dinner at Houston This Is It Soul Food. For there haircare need I would take them to Bennett Beauty & Barber Supply. Pink Pearls Salon for that wash/ style The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Evease Tucker was a great help in bringing this program to life. My husband Eric Lane was been a great support me and many volunteers.
