We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Franks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Finding a balance between work life and home life is a critical and challenging task for many parents. As a business owner of a 24/7 operation, it is unrealistic to think that my family life will never be interrupted by a call to action, thus making acceptance of that an important aspect of my perception of balance. Perceiving your life as balanced is probably the single most important factor! About 4 years ago, I transitioned from stay-home-mom to Home Care owner. As a stay-home-mom, I took great pride in keeping my home clean and organized, preparing healthy meals and snacks for my family, and staying in good physical shape. As the demands of work have increased over the years, I’ve had to adjust how I define those things in order to not feel overwhelmed by the combined tasks of work and family life. Over time I’ve shortened the distance of my runs, found ways to meal prep and share food responsibilities with my husband, and found a way not to let those completely disorganized drawers and cabinets in my house bother me so much:) I strive to schedule minimal activities on the weekends to facilitate spending more down time with family and friends. Down time has become something that I’m very protective of because I know my work days will always be busy. Every Monday morning I have a mental check list I go through to assess how well I’ve balanced my time between tasks and family members, which always includes in improvement plan for the next week, lol. Finding and maintaining balance is an ongoing process but well worth the time and energy when the overall result is the perception of a well balanced life:)Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up in The Woodlands, TX and am so honored and proud to be able to care for older adults in my home town. Our At Your Side Home Care mission is to help every client and family life their best live possible. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Woodlands, TX is a wonderful place to live and play. My absolute favorite weekend activity is riding bikes with my family to a favorite restaurant followed by a stop at the park and with all of the bike trail, dining, and park options in The Woodlands, we can mix it up and always have a great time. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not be successful without the support of my husband and my parents. Since my transition from stay-home-mom to home care business owner, my husband has gradually taken on more and more of the household responsibilities and our home could not run smoothly without his help. He makes delicious meals for us, takes the kids to their activities, and goes to the grocery store all while running a business of his own! My parents are also incredibly helpful and I don’t know what we’d do without them. They’re so kind to be available to pick up a kid from school on a moments notice, pick up supplies for us, or send my team at work a box of cookies just because.
