We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was having a passion for beauty and fashion.

There were many talentive individuals in my life, whom encouraged me in this beauty feel. My mom always killed my hair done, and some sort of style. Mainly a braided hairstyle, since I had a head full of hair. Which was very long and thick. She kept it braided, so she wouldn’t have to do it everyday.

Over the years, As I Grew up. I started doing my own hair, family and close friends hair as well. Once other seen the work I’ve created on others. It brought me more clients. So, at an early age, I started charging a small fee for using my mom’s living room as my mini salon. Even, after a couple of Road blockages that came my way, over the years…I kept pushing myself for greatness. The things that were sent, to distract me, never succeeded. It never stopped me nor made me give up on the dreams and goals, I had set for myself. Dedication and hard work, have gotten me where I am today.

This was my thought process behind starting my own business. I hope my story encourages you all, to never give up on your dreams nor yourself. No matter what comes your way, to keep you disfocused or to discourage you, to make you think you’re never enough to accomplish your goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a perfectionist, is what sets me aside from the rest of these stylists…I’m too PERFECTIONIST‼️ I got to make sure your hair is to the most perfected style ever‼️ THAT’S MY PROBLEM‼️ EVEN MY INSTRUCTORS, have told me that, when I was in cosmetology school. I would take so long on a hairstyle, just to get it right‼️ THE LIFE of A VIRGO‼️ I’m proud of how dedicated I am to my career. I’ve been doing here since I was 12 years old, so for almost 27 years. Next year will be 27 years, I’ve been in this beauty industry. Hard work and dedication, is what got me here today in my business. It wasn’t easy. I’ve had some ups and downs, since I’ve been chasing this dream. The only way, I’ve overcame all these challenges, was not giving up not matter what came my way. I never gave up on my dreams nor myself. The lessons that I have learned along the way on this journey, it’s learning not to trust everyone. I put my trust in a lot of people and they have disappointed me. There’s a lot of people, who was dead weight in the beginning of my career. When I first started doing this, when I was younger. I have had a lot of people, having animosity towards me. I grew up with the same drama, & I’m still experiencing that now….by the same people and even more now. I thought, they were my friends but they aren’t & they aren’t here with me now today. What I want the world to know about my brand, is that, it is authentic and unique just like me. I love what I do. So, my job, my career, isn’t really like a job to me. It has been my passion, this is something I love doing. I enjoy making people feel good about themselves. I love making people feel good on the inside and on the outside. THAT’S my whole purpose in this business! Helping people, find that confidence within themselves and giving them the courage to fight whatever, they’re fighting. I help my clients, not to give up on their dreams and to fight harder for what they believe in and what they want. My careers didn’t come easy in this world. Nothing’s going to come to you, so you have to work hard and you have to be dedicated and never give up on yourself, nor the dreams you have set for yourself. I know if I can do it, anyone can do it. With God on my side, I have accomplished so much. My business is called Tamara’s Creative Images and I am a mobile, certified cosmetologist. I’m in college now, studying to become a legal paralegal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Is my best friend was to visit the area that I live in, and I wanted to show them the best time ever. I would take them to my son’s job, Topgolf. If it was a week-long trip, we would eat at my home because I love to cook. I will also prepare the drinks I know how to make drinks. We will hang out here at my house, chill, watch movies, play a couple of games. Then, we will go and adventure off, to visit other family and friends here in Houston. We will go shopping and go places, where we can have fun. There’s a lot of places here in Houston, you can go to enjoy yourself. They have things in the Spring area, The Woodland’s area, the downtown area, the Katy area, the Cypress area. There is so many areas & things to do here in Houston Texas. So, I know for a fact, the week trip, my friend will experience with me here, will be fun and worth the while.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to God, my mother, my children, and everyone in my life, who have not given up on me….while I’ve been on this journey. Despite my hardships and the road blockages, I have encountered over all these years of my life. They chose to be there with me, every step of the way & I really appreciate them for that. I’m blessed and thankful for having them in my life.
