We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Cuevas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I love seeing the outcome of my work. I choose the beauty industry to transform my clients from the inside out. It’s a bittersweet feeling making people feel good about themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been behind the chair for nine years. I started working behind the chair straight out of beauty school at 18. My path in the industry has been bittersweet. Looking back I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve worked for corporate salons and have had the chance to travel. Now that I’ve found my nitch and what I love, which is hair color and hair extensions. I love what I do because the growth is never ending. It’s a blessing to meet new clients in my chair who I get to see grow through college, planning a wedding, growing their families. My clients become family. And I get to make them feel beautiful all through every stage in their life. It’s taken awhile to get my ideal clients but it wasn’t difficult because social media has really helped me build my guest list to what it is now. I did a handful of models, took tons of photos and was consistent with continuing my education.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Katy, Tx is a beautiful city with a lot of small businesses. I enjoy supporting locals. So if a friend came to visit I would take them to a local coffee shop, to a few clothing boutiques in Old Katy. And lastly introduced them to some yummy BBQ.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is what’s most important to me. I’m a woman with a few titles: wife, mama and hairdresser. I do everything with love for my family. They deserve all the credit for what I do.
