We had the good fortune of connecting with Tayo Timi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tayo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Freedom.

The privilege to have my destiny in my hands. To know that how much I want to be is directional proportional to how hard and smart I work at it

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Please tell us more about your art.

I’m a wedding, portrait and maternity photographer. I have been fortunate to document over 300 weddings across different continents. I own a professional studio in Houston Tx. My websites are www.akintayotimi.com and www.timishotme.com. I think my “why” has evolved over time but right now, I’ll say after 10 years in the industry, what keeps me going is the excitement of meeting people.

We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others.

As artistic and creative we photographers will like to be, that phrase ” there’s nothing new that hasn’t be done” is somewhat very valid. I believe a lot of what we consume today are often inspired by other things and not necessarily invented.

In this modern age where smart phones deliver very good quality it’s safe to say your selling point should be more than just crisp clear images because that’s easily accessible. For me, what stands me apart is Me. I am the brand, I sell the experience of working with me, not so much what you’ll get from me. After 10 years I’m very confident in my ability so that is a given, my essential role from inquiry to completion of a project is a satisfied customer who ends up being friends with me.

what you are most proud of or excited about

I’m always excited about any new inquiry because of the endless possibilities. Meeting someone and learning something new is always fascinating.

How did you get to where you are today professionally

In a world where people often prioritize talent, handwork, amongst other attributes for me it is simply dedication. Doing it over and over again while constantly improving

Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

Easy is relative. lol. But I don’t think anything pretty amazing comes easy, that’s why we value these things because they are not for the most part easy to achieve. I overcame by persistence irrespective of whatever phased me.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way

Everything you set your mind to is achievable especially with God by your side

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I began my career taking passport photos, I learnt a lot myself and kept growing. Nothing was handed to me. If I can do it, you can do it. Sounds so cheesy. lol

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat – Rouxpour one of my fav restaurants

Bowling will make the cut.

I’m a movie junkie so yes we are going to the cinema

Host games night

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sony Cameras. I’m an ambassador to the Sony company

My wife

My parents

God
