We had the good fortune of connecting with Tenequa Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tenequa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are important for growth. We take many risks on a daily basis without realizing it, and in reality, we should take bigger positive risks for ourselves. If we don’t, we’ll never understand our limitless boundaries. Risks come in many forms and I’ve taken many risks. For example, just commuting to and from any destination, love/life decisions, and business ventures all require us to take risks. Starting my boutique back in 2018 was a time and monetary risk. I didn’t know how Nequa’s Corner would do in profits or returns of my investments, but because I was ready to be an entrepreneur I had to take that risk. Without taking risks, Nequa’s Corner wouldn’t be in business today. You must believe that any positive risk you take will work out in your best interest.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Nequa’s Corner is a women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories online store. I try to keep mature and trendy options at an affordable price. I make my items affordable because I am a bargain shopper. If I can find the same exact item elsewhere at a better price, I’m going for it! I’m proud to know that Nequa’s Corner is being recognized more and my work is paying off. Taking new found risks have got me to where I am today. The road had been bumpy along the way with sales doing good one month and no sales the next month. At one point I almost gave up, but I had invested much into my business. I started to genuinely pray and different opportunities and ideas came to me. I decided to try something different in promoting my business. I started doing ads and had the idea to host my first pop up shop. I’ve learned it takes money to make money so you must invest and not be scared to do it. You must also remain consistent and network with strangers if or when you don’t have known resources. I started the name Nequa’s Corner for a blog I had created on WordPress back in 2015, and in 2018 started my clothing boutique. Calling my boutique the same as my blog, Nequa’s Corner is dedicated to bringing our customers quality apparel and shoes and is unique from other online stores in selection.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a simple girl so it doesn’t take much to entertain me, but if I were to take a friend out in the city, I would start our day with a good brunch at Phil and Dereks. Phil and Dereks is actually family friendly so if you have kids they are welcome there as well. I love nature walks so if my friend was up to it, we would take a walk through the trails of Pundt Park or visit the Aquarium downtown to eat and enjoy the views of sea life they have to present. There’s always a comedy show going on so we’d definitely have to go to the Improv to catch an act. Galveston beach is always a nice getaway which is only about an hour away. If you’re into clubs or night/day spots, Bar 2200 is a nice mature adult venue. Italiano’s is a nice and affordable Italian restaurant with great dishes cooked to perfection. Steak houses are almost inevitable in Houston. Texas Roadhouse has some of the best steak grilling chefs to cure your steak fix, unless you’re looking for a more upscale place like Perry’s or Steak 48. Trill Burger would be a stop to showcase Houston’s own rapper Bun B’s Burger joint that recently opened, too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my step dad for being my first model entrepreneur growing up. He took a risk leaving an auto service chain and went into business for himself as a mechanic, and ever since I’ve wanted to own my own business.
