We had the good fortune of connecting with The Happy Outlaws and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Happy Outlaws, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
At the end of 2020, we had an idea to collectively raise money for non-profits, mutual aid funds, and direct aid that actively advocate for and help marginalized communities throughout Texas by combining two of our passions: drink making and community building.
We had our very first drink pop up in July 2021 raising money for RAÍCES, a non-profit that provides free to low-cost legal services to immigrants and migrants. Because of the community that came out to support our very first pop-up, we were able to donate $900 made from selling coffee bevs and aguas frescas alone. Since then, we have hosted pop ups and markets with other amazing small business. Together, we have donated over $20k to some amazing organizations and funds.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that makes me extremely proud of the work that we’re doing is that community is genuinely the foundation of our mutual aid. We’re just a ragtag group of service industry people trying to do good with what we know how.
Organizing community events and mutual aid pop ups is not easy. It’s a lot of work physically and mentally, especially when we’re also trying to navigate this capitalistic society. However, being able to use our skills and talents for the greater good is rewarding in its own way. We are making a difference, no matter how small that may be.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To everyone that has supported our pop ups, thank you– we truly could not do this without y’all. To the rad people that are The Happy Outlaws, your passion to cultivate community and fight injustices is incredibly beautiful and inspiring. Grateful to work alongside such talented people.
