We had the good fortune of connecting with The Idea Midwife and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Idea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No risk, no reward. Risk is necessary to live. As soon as we are born, we enter into an unspoken agreement to die without ever having made that decision for ourselves. The only thing we can choose is how we live. Thus in our every decision is a risk, and also an opportunity. I choose to take the risk of living life with purpose. For me, this means that I made the decision to give up my “normal” life to switch into entrepreneurship in an uncalculated manner. While I don’t recommend this method, I did it. One day after fighting another soul-wrenching day at my 9-5, I looked up to the sky-blue heavens and said: “Lord, I know this is not for me. I am an entrepreneur, and that’s what I will be.” What I am today, I have always been–an entrepreneur. Without taking the risk to challenge my norm, I would have never embarked on this beautiful, daring and exciting journey that has enhanced my life. Risk is the essence of entrepreneurship, and the epitome of business. Risk is what happens when you take action on an idea. Take the risk and overcome your fear by taking action on your idea now. Your idea today just may be your future tomorrow.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Bringing ideas to life in reality is my full-time joy and life’s obsession. I live to implement social impact ideas.”
Hi! My name is Joy, but you can call me The Idea Midwife. Some also call me Action Jackson. I live in the clouds, but am down to earth. I love people. It’s that simple. I am a premier Ideas IRL Consultant and serial entrepreneur who has had the honor of creating and aiding many entrepreneurial endeavors. My Ideas are for sale, and yours should be too! I’ve spent my life encouraging and empowering others to know that the most inner essence of their mind is worth their time to developm. That is, your idea–and the actions you take to make your idea reality–are your indispensable future builders. Your idea is priceless, but impracticality can be costly. Using ideas consulting; infrastructure design, operations development and logistics, we will chart a path to bring your idea to light and revenue together. Before the 2021 beginnings of my own personal brand– Eclectic Resolve (still under construction)–my entrepreneurial hustle began to ensure that community gaps were filled. I served as a teacher, community organizer, and in various entrepreneurial capacities for many years. I believe that ideas are micro-expressions of who we are as people; and each time someone lets an go of an idea that they love, they also let a piece of themselves die. For me, it never mattered what the idea was, only that it existed, solved a problem and that someone had the passion and persistence to bring it to life. Business has been a struggle for me just as it is for most. I have encountered every problem of the everyday entrepreneur. However the world keeps turning, and difficulties always exist. As a dedicated entrepreneur, I work with the intrinsic belief that there is a solution to almost every problem, and reality for almost every idea. Owning a business is in my blood and the privilege of seeing its day-to-day development feeds me internally. Here is a great equation-in-progress: Daily Learning * (Everyday Person + Persistent Action) = Eclectic Resolve. If you can remember nothing else about Eclectic Resolve (The ER) and The Idea Midwife, remember: Business is a way to monetize the capacity of ideas and action. So, business success will come from your entrepreneurial resolve. This is the Idea Midwife at The ER (Eclectic Resolve), signing off. Hope to meet you soon, and brainstorm! Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a 3rd generation Houstonian, and 5th+ generation Texan, but I don’t have any favorite spots. I love the whole city, its random cultural pockets, and love to drive. I move based on moods, listen to random music and visit places based on the vibe of the day. Non-negotiables are family, friends, great food, music, bodies of water and/or nature. Everything else is open for exploration. We will sit in nature, cruise the city, and hunt for the restaurants based on our spontaneous palates and need for fun. First, we take a tour in my car with the windows down while listening to Z-Ro, Trae, UGK, SUC and some Lil KeKe as we ride through the “Southside Hoods” of Sunnyside, Southpark and 3rd Ward. Then we swing on up to downtown and Discovery Green, midtown, SW and the Gallo while listening to AfroVibes. Next, we stop for local food from food trucks and family’s houses, and roll through the Med Center back up to Emancipation and Almeda to Hiram Clarke while listening to 90.9 KTSU. Later, we visit parks like Hermann and Miller, Memorial, Tom Bass and Adair with blankets, food, and music. We would chill while the breeze hits us, and we enjoy leisurely conversations and jazz. We also join a bike group like Tour de Hood or Critical Mass. Finally while outside of the city, we visit the beach, Kemah, FBC Heritage Unlimited Museum in Kendleton, and Brazos Bend State Park to eat with the alligators and check out the stars. Each day we explore a different food scene. One day we go for BBQ, another for tacos, another for vegan, another for seafood, another for burgers and fries, another for fusion food trucks. Houston is so huge, it has almost endless possibilities. Only an organized free-for-all that mirrors the nature of the city–and is based on moods and vibes–can do HTX justice. When my people see my city, where we go and how we go will depend on their preference, generations of Htown knowledge, and “new-spot” hunting led by local social media pages and searches.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of these people, I would not be where I am. S/o to: GOD, Mom, Dad, My Grannies, The Fam (we’re deep), Southeast Community Church, Action One Media, The Bridge of Light Radio & Tour, Under Construction Radio / MJWJ Global Radio Network, The Black Marketing Initiative / #MarketBlack Collective, and Fearless Dreamers & Action Takers. There are so many, many others, but the list is too long to keep going. I love my people. I love my city!
