We had the good fortune of connecting with Tianne Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tianne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first instinct was “I have to start somewhere.”, and I’ll never regret it. I never really knew how or where to start when I decided to start my business, but I started at 19. I was younger and newly into entrepreneurship so I knew there was so much to learn and figure out about having a business of my own. Honestly, it is one of the best decisions I’ve made!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would consider myself a designer and an artists. I hand sew clothes from scratch using different fabrics and just create different ideas. I have my own style and I love to model my own clothes, its like a two for one! That’s the most exciting thing about my business because I get to show other people that I am also comfortable wearing what I make and love it! It all began when I was 19 at PVAMU, an HBCU where I seen so many people starting up businesses and different organizations. It gave me the perfect opportunity to get started because I had been distressing jeans since middle school, but never had the vision to start a business. By far, it was not an easy journey because I was doing it alone and learning as I went. My only promise to myself is that I keep going and learning – I notice that everything only gets better when I do. I’d like the world to know that I aspire to make each person feel good about themselves in what they wear. I believe that women who feel good about themselves have a higher level of self-esteem and power.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being that I am from Michigan, I think Lost and Found is one of my favorite places for some good food, drinks, and a great time. Houston’s night life is amazing, so I’d take her to one of my favorite clubs like: Address, Spire, or Space. I am a big fan of the food here, so there’s a food park on Westheimer for some snow cones and Midwest Coney Connection which is the perfect way for me to feel at home again.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe it is the little things that matter about anything you have going on for yourself. I’ve had plenty of support, but I can say the most support I’ve had so far had came from Areyon and Landon. When it comes to showing up, Destani and Trinity. Support comes free and I feel like having people loyal to helping your business grow by a word of mouth, a share, or just trusting you motivates me to keep going. My bestfriend Kyrian has a big role in that too, just seeing his work ethic and drive for what he has going for himself shows me why I shouldn’t settle and give up on my dreams.
