We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Allison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art is part of who I am. It is in my roots and feeds my growth. As a child, I performed gymnastics and dance. As I grew, I turned to performing music, painting, and swing dancing. However, as an adult with children now, I do not have as much time for group activities. Also, with children, it was hard to paint due to the mess. I had to turn to another creative outlook. This is when I found photography. I started with a beginner, used, DSLR camera just taking photos of my family. After all, who can resist taking all those cute photos of their kids? Then from there, I just started expanding out to family, friends, and now clients. I truly enjoy having a creative outlet to expressive myself and bring joy to others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is bold, emotional, and colorful. I am proud how it has developed over the past year and excited that I am developing to incorporate a story telling style. I work hard to help my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera while also making poses look natural and in the moment. For me, this has been a journey with multiple challenges on learning programs, settings, lighting, how to set up a website/business, and more. I had spent hours taking free courses, reading, watching you tube videos, joining photography groups for peers to help and more. I have learned that you grow from trial and error along with practice, practice, practice. Practice definitely may not make us perfect, but it makes better and helps you learn. I am constantly still working to perfect new skills. But if you truly enjoy something and put the work into it, it leads to rewarding results. I just want the world to know I work hard to bring forth and capture wonderful moments. I try to do this not only through my business as a photographer, but as a physical therapist who treats cancer and amputee patients.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh goodness, this is a difficult question. It would really depend on the friend and if they had kids. If I was just considering me and this one friend, I would love to go to the beach or Kema Board walk, one day and eat brunch at the Mesquito Cafe. Another day, I’d love to go to the concert in the park or the Zoo then go eat at Rim Tanon or The Hobbit. The next day, go to an Astros, Texan’s, or Dynamos game. Go ‘Stros! Way to win the World Series! It would also be significant fun to visit some of the breweries or wineries in town such as Saint Arnolds or the Thirsty Bee. There are so many fun and wonderful Houston experiences that it is very difficult to choose exactly what to do. It would really depend on the exact friend.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my family and friends, who has done nothing but support my growth. I would also like to give a shout out to Amy and Jordan, Photographer Couple. They have wonderful educational class which started my journey into photography.
