We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Farley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Todd, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my personal success and TMJ Bimmers’ success was my decision to Specialize early on in my career. After investing 20 years in the automotive industry, from entry level machine shop work and parts delivery to driving a Snap-on Tools truck, I learned over time how the automotive service industry could be improved; by laser focusing on one make of vehicle. For me that quickly became BMWs, and over time we added Mercedes, Mini Coopers and Porsches. It wasn’t long ago that your average automotive repair shop was ready, willing and able to work on all makes and models of cars. But, nowadays the automotive field has evolved tremendously. From newer engines with turbo and superchargers, to newer suspensions, and even down to the newer complex airbag and entertainment systems; all have their respective peculiarities which all vary greatly by manufacturer. Nowadays the field has expanded to well beyond the reach of even the best Master Technicians, so specialization in the automotive industry is a very good thing for consumers. The industry is too wide and vast for any one shop to be qualified to repair all makes or models. 

What should our readers know about your business?
I’d like the world to know that we are a specialty German automotive shop that caters to the latest models as well as the classics. My team and I have built this business slowly and steadily on 5-star reviews with a focus on delivering quality work and creating raving fans in and around the Houston Metroplex. What sets us apart from other independent shops is the fact that a visit to TMJ Bimmers starts with a customized treatment plan based on each individuals current use of and eventual plan for their vehicles. If your plan is to drive it until the wheels fall off, we will advise you on repairs and services necessary for your intended use. Or, if you’re planning to only drive it for weekend getaways, or you plan to sell it soon — we’ll work together to ensure your vehicle’s plan is aligned with your goals & we’ll advise you accordingly. Our focus at TMJ Bimmers isn’t to make as much money as possible or to sell customers something they don’t really need. Our focus is to deliver a quality trusted experience and to make all of our customers feel as though they’ve been treated like family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being born and raised in Houston, I like to take visitors to one of many independently owned eateries like Ouisie’s table or Downhouse, Petrol station, Bosscat Kitchen or Nancy’s Hustle. Or, if I’m in the mood for a good steak, Perry’s or Ruth’s Chris are my favorites. Cyclone Anaya’s is another TexMex favorite in the Houston area that I frequent. The downtown aquarium is always a nice thing to do in the daytime followed by a visit to one of many local craft breweries for a tour or tasting. On the weekends, there’s usually a car show or a festival we try to catch in and around the Houston area. And, when its warm out (which is often) we like to take a spin down to Galveston for the day and enjoy the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, the lord our savior. For without him, my success wouldn’t have been possible. Secondarily, I have to give a Shoutout to a good buddy of mine – Carlos Flores. In a small town like Corpus Christi, 10+ years ago, I witnessed him supporting his family and almost doubling his income by turning wrenches in his driveway. Carlos really demonstrated for me how you can start small and grow that idea into a successful business.
