We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Goldie Russ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevor Goldie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been a creative guy and I’m naturally good with hands-on activities, so overtime I explored different avenues of work that would allow me to expand upon those talents… That led me to barbering and the rest is history.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner and currently, the only barber that works out of my business, Goldie’s Barbershop. I think there’s a lot of corporate barbershops or establishments that are super commercialized or focused on money, rather than experience. Sure, it puts food on the table, but your clients’ experience with you will keep them coming back… Which will then of course, allow your business to continue to grow and success will follow. I really make sure I keep my client relationships in mind and that’s not a difficult thing to make happen when I get to meet and talk with so many different, interesting, awesome people every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our area is small, but growing and has a lot of hidden gems. I’d probably take them to some tucked away skate parks, maybe the beach, explore Galveston, some great food places around there and Clear Lake. There’s always fun to be had. But of course, they’d have to start their visit off right with a nice cut at Goldie’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So the barber school that I learned from had a lot of experienced students that helped me grow, it really ended up not being the school, but the people inside of it that helped push me to my success. Also, shoutout to a YouTube channel called Beard Brand that really helped me work on my craft outside of school.
