We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyana Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is I want to do something that I am passionate about, and will show my kids that what you love can actually get you somewhere in life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ty Dye Hair Lounge is more than just a hair line, it’s a expression. As a woman that often doubted herself physically I am finding ways to build that confidence and expression through my hair, this alone I feel sets be apart from others. Building a business is rough and I often time lose faith but it’s a bigger picture I want to accomplish, I am still early in the business so whenever I doubt it I focus on the example I am able to show my kids and I how I feel about it. The main lesson I have learned is consumers don’t buy a product they are buying a piece of you so give it your all or give it nothing.
I want the world to know that Ty Dye Hair Lounge is a family of we build and uplift each other and express ourselves in different ways through our hair both naturally and with extensions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my bestfriend comes to visit we will spend time at Galveston beach the first day, ride jet skis, we will get our hair done using hair from Ty Dye Hair Lounge, go do our nails and feet at Qb nail lounge prior to the beach. Day to will have brunch at Kamp Houston or a place similar, go shopping at the Galleria mall, and later that evening Uber to club Onyx. One the last day it will be a free day so she will get to decide however knowing my bestie we will end up at another brunch spot like Graces, visit the aquarium and end the night at a nice lounge maybe prospect park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my kids, my mother Yolanda Patrick, my Aunt Jannie Powell, and lastly the love my life Calvin White. My mother showed me throughout my life that being a strong black woman leads to endless trials that build you up to be the courageous and self leading person I need to be in order to succeed, my aunt has always encouraged me to do what I love and not what anyone else wants from me. My husband is always supporting me and helping rather if it’s handing out business cards or building shelves for me he is amazing. Lastly kids give me the drive to keep going when I have no more faith.
